@@kristinajohn5914 , I also started taking Methyl Folate 1,000mcg last year, and I noticed a difference right away. My headaches greatly reduced to where, for months, I did not need medicine, and this summer, I barely needed allergy pills. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I know they help each other out. The only problem is that folate can look like b12 in tests. Do you get injections? U.S. protocol is that if you show any symptoms for b12 deficiency, you are able to get injections.

@@Dana-cz1yu, There are a few other tests, but none of them are conclusive. If they note macrocytosis, that's an indicator. I can't think of the other ones at the moment. You'll have to google around, sorry. I do have to say, whenever I've handed a list of tests to doctors, they don't even look at it, they just toss it back and say, "I don't know what these are." So I stopped asking for tests. It is one of those things. If the test says you are deficient, you are deficient. If it says you aren't, there is still a good chance you might be. You should know that the government protocol in the U.S. (and I'm pretty sure in Great Britain and Japan now,) is that if a patient shows ANY signs of B12 deficiency, the physician is supposed to offer B12 injections.

My entire life doctors would say “you’re a little anemic”. I’ve lived a life of fatigue and depression. As I’ve aged (49 today) I’ve gotten scarier symptoms. I’ve been to just about every doctor under the sun that specializes in everything…I’ve had synthetic iron infusions. My ears ring, my eyes have gone bad, my head pounds, my blood pressure is up etc. 5mo ago I woke up with a numb leg all the way to My toes. All my life my stomach has been a mess….i called it IBS. Long story short I had EGD, colonoscopy, gall bladder scan, abdominal scans etc etc. all normal. I’m talking decades of doctors guys. No one ever checked my b-12. Ever. Well yesterday they did. He said I was the lowest he’d ever seen. He gave me a b-12 shot at noon. Told me to get a series of 7 and then once a month for life. I woke up at 4am and can’t sleep. I feel like a million bucks. I’m shook. If one lil shot has made this much of a difference I think I’m going to feel like a new person. I’m just angry no one ever suggested it in all this time. My 4 girls also have small red blood cells. Doctors never seem too concerned and I always say “well I’m also anemic” My 14yr old has vitaligo ! Wow. She has a white streak and one small spot the dermatologist has recently said is vitaligo. My god. The more u learn. I’m going to have them all get their b-12 tested. I’ll be damned if I let them live a whole life like this.

Oh yeah 😎? The Micturition Reflex requires Vitamin B12. Lack of Cobalamin causes loss of control of the urinary bladder leading to urinary incontinence. The bladder fills and overfills leading to stretching of the smooth muscle of the bladder causing the bladder to suddenly, spasmodically to constrict forcing urine (micturere-Latin) to be forced back up the ureters into the kidneys under pressure. Also urine is forced down and out through the urethra onto the floor. Urine forced into the kidneys under pressure could lead to kidney failure from being damaged.

You only increase your cancer risk with folate supplements. Those are made of folic acid, which isn't folate. There is no folate deficiency, as it occurs in most vegetables and meats. It is unlike b12 not dependent on the intrinsic factor, so as long as a person eats normally, their folate levels will be good. The body regulates folate levels on itself and limits the upper value. Folic acid is not the same as folate and the body can't establish an upper limit for it, as it just doesn't know folic acid, which isn't found in vegetables or meats. Folic acid can mimic folate in serum, but doesn't act like it. It is more of a poison and the link between this and increased cancer is evidenced. Also, high folate can mask b12 deficiency. Folate is preventing anemia, but not the neurological symptoms. If you wanna stay on the safe side, take isolated b12 (in what form doesn't matter, all kinds are split to the needed forms in the body) and hide from folic acid.
@curiouscat3384

Neither of us commentors is taking folic acid. I am taking Methylcobalamin which is recommended for B12 deficiency by my Functional Medicine doctor. If you're preaching to people who know nothing then put it in the main comment section. I've done fairly well with the sublinguals. I take 10,000mcg daily. I've also been taking 1000mcg of Methyl Folate, and that seems to help. If you are low on stomach acid, you might want to take an apple cider vinegar tablet or two a day. I find that the ACV tablets are also helpful for heartburn. I don't get it too often, but if I have one of those weeks where it just keeps getting stronger, I make sure I take 1-2 of the tablets a day, and it goes away for months. BTW, I am not a doctor. This is just what I do. Though B12 deficiency is tricky to test for, other vitamins are not, so if you can see a doctor, ask him to check on vitamins like iron (not just hemoglobin), potassium and D. Turns out, I'm deficient in just about everything.
