Welcome to our channel, thank you for visiting, we appreciate your input, please leave us a comment or a question below. Today we answer the question, do our pets need vitamin supplements?
Did you ever wonder why researchers test drugs, shampoos, and numerous other things on rats and mice prior to administering to humans?
Rats are actually physiologically and genetically similar to humans and they have sacrificed many lives in the name of science.
Because humans are genetically and physiologically similar to rats, an assumption could be made that dogs and cats would have similarities as well. We all have one thing in common; we are all mammals.
There is actually a branch of the FDA that regulates the safety of pet foods. The Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) has oversight for any product and determines if it is safe for use (i.e. forages, grains and most minerals and vitamins).
There is conflicting data about commercial, big brand pet food companies and misrepresenting the ingredients in certain foods.
The message here is for everyone to research what you are feeding your pets and understand that proper nutrition is just as important for them as it is for us two-legged mammals.
Poor nutrition can cause serious illness in dogs, just like humans. For example, certain genetic mutations in humans and dogs can cause the stoppage of the conversion of folate to methyl folate.
So if folate (B9) is not converted to methyl folate to allow for methylation to occur in DNA synthesis, a human or a dog can have the following diseases or disorders:
neurological disease,
cardiovascular disease,
reproductive disease,
miscarriage,
kidney disease,
digestive disease,
detoxification issues,
cancer and more.
For proper methylation to occur in humans and animals, the body requires bioactive B vitamins (i.e., riboflavin, B6, folate, and B12), choline, betaine, magnesium, and zinc to run smoothly.
One key indicator for human females that they may have this genetic issue would be multiple miscarriages, otherwise you should seek a medical test.
Exercise and a balanced diet can help resolve nutritional issues that can cause disease for humans. For animals and pets, it can be a similar solution.
Bioactive vitamins are only different from regular vitamins because they are animal or plant sourced.
Always verify that your vitamin or supplement is plant or animal sourced, it is required to be on the label.
Stay healthy my furry friends!
