Exactly. And turned it into the biggest imported olive oil company in the US. Not to mention using the olive oil trucks to haul booze during prohibition. And made his son his Consigliere, which was another master-stroke in building his empire. _The Godfather_ is easily one of the very best books I've ever read. Very hard to put down.

One thing I respect about the America-Italian Mafia: they are the only Mafia ever that never EVER touched each-others family members. They did that in Italy but never in America. So if you think they’re violent, it was only between people that sign in to be in that life.

Why do they speak Italian like this? I’ve heard Italians speak and they speak fast. Only in this movie(s) do they speak really slow.
@stefanosiclari
Жыл бұрын
Absolutely not true. Plenty of Italians speak like this. It's a mix of age, dialect, region, relationship to the other person. Here they are speaking in a sicilian dialect (De Niro's not so good, by the way) and it's not unusual to hear people in such context to speak slowly. One more thing could be that De Niro clearly has a script memorised, can't get the rythm and stress right. I don't recognise the other actor but his dialect is spot on and perfectly believable.
