I agree with everybody else - it is sad you lost a number this summer to the raging Nevada heat - but most of your plants look remarkably healthy and happy and beautiful - especially in that cactus garden of yours - all a testament to the skills and all the hard work of their mom!

I basically move all the cacti and succulents in and out the room during morning and evening... maybe i should just leave them outside in the balcony with a shade. 😂 But my apt is east-south facing, in the morning, I feel that myself is almost melt... thus don't want to leave them outside.

Hi Anna and thanks for your fascinating inspiring videos. Sad to know that you lost some of your dear cacti. Here in Sudan we have a tough weather in which temperatures range between 111 F by day and 88 F at night most of the year. Only in the period from December to the end of February that the temperature drops to 55 F at night. As such, we treat our cacti as normal house plants and irrigate them so often, especially in April and May when we have "Haboob", hot dry wind that absorbs all plant moisture. Rarely do our cacti flower. A cooling greenhouse is not affordable due to the high cost in addition to the prolonged electricity cuts. Can you give me an ingenious solution so that my cacti thrive and flower? Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about your losses, but this global warming really sucks. Australia then California burning, Arctic permafrost thawing which will lead to massive amounts of methane released. Hard not to despair in the face of this wicked problem. It’s a disgrace that governments across the world have absolved themselves from doing anything about it while we had a chance.

Sorry you lost some of your plants Ana. I usually don't loose ad many during the summer as I do during the winter. If i do lose them during the summer it's from a soaking rain storm. During the winter some things just don't like any kind of cold! My Adeniums have to stay in a safe room under grow lights where it doesn't drop below 55°F I had a little trouble with root rot on a couple of ariocarpus, but saved them. Good work with shading your plants! Sometimes we gotta go above and beyond to keep our plants!!! I've been cutting wood every weekend to be ready to heat my plants this winter!! From Morris park in the Ozarks , out to Las Vegas, hope you cool a bit more!! Peace,Love,Plants!!!✌💖🌵🌹🌴🌷🌿🌸🌻🍀🌺

Hi, I am on the other side of the valley in Summerlin. My cacti have been taking a beating in this heat. I put shade cloth over my artichoke cactus because it was beginning to yellow. Wrapped some of the other cacti as well. Not sure of how to water the plants. Most say cacti do well with once per month, but in the direct sun and shade the soil in the pots is dry in less than one week. So I have been watering them at least once a week and sometimes twice. Suggestions? Thanks.

Hey Ana. I've lost a few cacti myself to the heat here in California's Central Valley. Mostly farm land here, but we're technically a desert. It really sucks losing plants! You have an awesome collection of plants! Thanks for sharing. By the way, l don't think all euphorbias like less sun than cacti. My Euphoria lactea "white ghost" is in direct sun all day long and doing quite well. I've noticed white colored succulents tend to like more light and dark ones do better with less.

I’m sorry that you lost some cacti yourself. 😔 It is a tough battle this year with the heat wave. I don’t have a lactea so that is good to know. I had my euphorbias under a shade cloth but some started to turn yellow when the temperature was 110F almost everyday here. So I moved them to a shadier position and they turned back to green (except for one) that I might have to chop the tips that burned. Thanks for your input! Fall is just around the corner. 😃🌵☕️

Some cacti go dormant here in the summer due to excessive heat. Watering them too much when dormant can also make them rot. The hard part is determining whether it needs more water or if it is just dormant as the external signs are the same.

@@CactusCaffeine wow I had no idea that was even a thing. I thought the more light and warmth the better. I just assumed the more desert like conditions the better so long as its acclimated.
