Sold my Uniden R7 and bought the Valentine V1 Gen2 radar detector. You can find a previous video on my channel where I show how I have the Uniden setup using the quad lock.
To get the Bluetooth alerts into your headset you'll need to use the V1Driver app (Android and iOS available) and NOT the V1 Connection app that is the companion app provided by Valentine. V1Driver has way more setting options anyway - so it's worth the $10 it costs even if you don't use it for BT alerts on your phone.
The V1Driver app also works with the Uniden R8 as I understand it. Not sure if all the same features are supported but my understanding is you can get the same kind of audio alerts via BT as well.
There's still a decent amount of fiddling around I'll have to do here to get the audio levels right. Since I use the Garmin Zumo XT and my phone is paired to that device via the Garmin Tread application there are now multiple places to set volume levels. The phone itself, the ZumoXT and also the main volume knob on the Cardo unit I use on my helmet. So, it'll be a fun time figuring all of that out - but I was able to get the audio alerts from the radar detector in my ear and that's what I was shooting for.
Hope the video was helpful - thanks for stopping by!
Again, even though the devices themselves support BT the original intent with the standard Valentine companion app is to use that BT connection simply for easy configuration of the device itself. The V1Driver app adds more features including the ability to provide the BT alerts over audio. So, this app is a required part of the process to make this work properly.
