@@Gingenuity actually, yes. They had an interview on it and that's where they found-out, that he was even sick. And, he refused to let them use any auto-tuning, during the song. They actually had a short video of him and the manager arguing over it, because he was sick, the manager thought it best for them to use auto-tuning, while he was on stage singing. But, he hate's to use auto-tuning effect's(He actually get's it, from a few band's, name ably Metallica, who tour so much, to perfect James Hetfield's vocal's, as well as they can perfect their pitch with the instrument's & their routine's on the stage, so there are no mistake's, as well. Which, is why they sound so much the same, on live stage, as they do on vinyl. Back in the 80's, there were very few band's, that refused to let the auto-tuning program to help them, just in-case, they were to do it acoustically on a show, or whatever. That way. They wouldn't sound like they are so wavy and sound more like what they truly represent.). But, I heard, that the manager won the battle, where for this version, they did allow it, due to his use of high coughing and how if he pushed too much, he would cough more. But, here is the link, to the actual video, of the song, by Disturbed. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1m96zWGdcKZjn2k They also did another cover, that they even made better, then the original, like this, as well. It's the early 80's Phil Collins song "Land Of Confusion", where like the song of "Sound Of Silence", they added their own darkness pitch to it, to bring out the different level's through the song. Is, the song by Disturbed - Down With The Sickness(Here is the link for that, as well. He sang as a Cantor with his father in a synagogue in Brooklyn, where he grew up. ‘Disturbed’ is now based in Chicago. The singer is David Draiman. What’s most remarkable about this-he was SICK during this performance. He had the flu and was running a fever. Apparently, Paul Simon (who wrote this in 1964) saw this performance on ‘Conan’ that night and called Draiman to say it was one of the best covers he’d ever heard of his masterpiece. Draiman was (understandably) stunned!

Binging reactions to this masterpiece by Disturbed and wanted to say I loved your expression and honest excitement as the song ramped up to the crescendo...can't help but smile at your smile! I'm not able to pickup auto-tune but I've seen other reviewers question that as well. Some have commented in other reaction videos there was auto-tune applied to certain notes as David was suffering from a flu at the time of the performance (or something along that line) so perhaps they did that to even out or strengthen some notes. I also read that David said no to auto-tune before the performance, preferring to take his chances on his voice and was not at all pleased when he listened to the recording post performance. But really, in the end, does it really even matter if it was used or not? I don't get the hype around this tbh.

I enjoy your videos, Lucia ... I thought you might like to know a bit more about Disturbed's singer David Draiman. He grew up in Chicago in an Orthodox Jewish family and had training as a Haz(z)an - Cantor - one who sings the Jewish religious service. So trained, Yes, but not Operatic... He also had to have surgery for a chronic acid reflux condition where a problem causes stomach acid to 'bath'e the lower esophagus - which may have effected his singing apparatus.. I didn't know anything about Disturbed until I saw the Official video of this song - amazing emotional video... I love his voice and the emotion he can convey. He says he did rebel and have anger and angst due to a very restricted childhood which could come out in the type of music his band chose to make... Be well - if you have trouble with comment trolls, you might find someone to act as a moderator who can weed out the worst - your positive commenters don't need exposure to their poison, either.

I didn’t know they would add autotune onto the transmission of a live broadcast. I didn’t realize you could do a legitimate autotune instantly like that...

Disturbed is primarily a metal rock band , this was a cover they did and is not typical of the music they normally produce. David Draimon , is the bands vocalist and usually sings with a raspy distortion to his voice , it's nice to hear him sing like this and use his power strategicly instead of just powering through. Something he doesn't often get to do with his bands normal style.

One of the most recognizable voices in heavy metal, David Draiman. His voice is epic. Even when he's screams. Give them a listen to. Either stricken or prayer I'd say. Disturbed are amazing!

performance was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! his voice both beautiful and haunting.....the piano gave chills to the soul and the bass drum pounding out those 2 strikes was haunting.......finally the orchestra was perect for fulfilling the rest of the song

Please watch his video to see the symbolism he uses to illustrate this old classic by Simone and Garfunkel! This is a heavy metal band that puts this classic in 2 very superb classes! The first is a dreamed wish for our world to change--David made this a battle cry for the younger generation, "CHANGE THE WORLD OR DIE!"

yes there is. in this particular performance. at the point he sang......" that voices never share" is most evident. Other reactors have pointed that out as well. but that does not change the fact that he is a great singer. Lucia is just too nice a person too call him out on it. i believe its the shows fault not him.

David has an incredible range. The Sound of Silence actually gave listeners the opportunity to focus on the quality of his voice by having the background music played softly. Because of the type of music his band normally plays his vocals are often drowned out by the bands loud background music. I would like to hear more songs where it focuses on his voice and the background music plays much more subtly in the background.

My interpretation of the song The Sound of Silence. This song is written with two separate people or consciousnesses singing it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very long time. The first, third and fifth verse is sung from the perspective of the unawakened and the second and forth verse are sung from the perspective of the awakened. Hello, darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware. In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence There are fewer of the awakened, and they feel as if they are alone under the Light of truth, because they refused to by into the lies the dark has been trying to feed them. Then one day they saw a crack in the armor of dark, a tear in the matrix, if you will and in that moment they saw a opportunity to break the sound of silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dared Disturb the sound of silence And in that moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds (awakened Ones) telling those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy those that were sleeping heard and saw the truth/Light in a very subtle way, but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of being attacked by those that controlled the sound of silence. They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not to disturb the sound of silence (the dark). And when the people became aware of theLight/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time, it really pissed them off. "Fools," said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you." But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead remained in the sound of silence. And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence." The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet. They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?

there is one small part of performance where the autotune kicked in, due to David's illness and when he found out after the performance he was pissed....at the end of "hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you" you can pick up on, but that is the ONLY place in song and only because he was sick

He does not need auto tune. He was trained as a Jewish Cantor. His Grandfather was a well respected Cantor. He also is a perfectionist. My guess is he practices a lot.
