True, only recently inducted into the hall of fame, though John Lennon and Robert Plant both cited him as their favourite singer... which I imagine would have to be the most meaningful accolades. I remember Chad Allen and the Expressions from when I lived in the 'Peg (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada). They evolved with Burton Cummings into the Guess Who. They were often introduced by a local rock jock, Ron "Keg" Legge from CKRC who played their music quite a lot. The drinking age was 21, and drugs were just coming to the streets, so things were pretty mellow. Music was king.

I prefer him; his voice, his sound, his choice in music, to Elvis. In my opinion, it may be unpopular but it's mine, there is too much affected sound in Elvis's voice. Especially in the later years. Burton Cummings sounds *almost* the same today as he did in the early years.

@@stephanieellis5399 to me, as a teen, there were 2 Elvis's. The first was a revolutionary Sun Records rocker before he went into the military, and a second thereafter singing music which was toned down by the Colonel to meet his new middle-class movie star persona. I love the original and while I respect his concert career after the military, he no longer grabbed me by the seat of my pants.

@@coldlakealta4043 So, Suspicious Minds just doesn't do it for you? Kentucky Rain isn't quite making it? I don't see it like that, and I don't deny your right to feel however you do. But when I hear Music Critics claim Elvis's movie music is crap, I wonder if they have even heard it. It seems pretty silly when you consider I Can't Help Falling in Love With You is from Blue Hawaii, and is arguably his signature song. The theme from Girl Happy, and the song Spring Fever are two more movie songs I love. The really ironic thing is the raw Elvis did not know how to sing, and might have wrecked his voice if he toured heavily singing like that. 60's Elvis is a vastly superior singer technically, and I doubt he would have had any trouble singing his older tunes in the original style if he wanted to. It's possible to sing correctly with a raw sound. Heavy Metal bands do it all the time, but they understand technique. If they didn't, their singer wouldn't make it through the second tour, singing that way with screams and everything...

Sometime in the mid-1970's he was at the top of the Playboy Magazine list of the best vocalists of the year. In my book he has always been at the top. He has a long list of amazing songs to check out. His solo stuff is amazing. Last saw him in Boston at Berkley College of Music in a solo show, about 2015. Fricking amazing.

I saw him in a small venue in Kitchener /Waterloo in the 70`s and he put on an amazing performance. He came out after the show and a standing ovation and sat down at the big white grand piano and did a whole number all by himself. He blew us all away. What a talent.

Burton Cummings and The Guess Who are one of the greatest of all time. As I work on my art work, I'm often playing the Guess Who. It's my go-to.

Saw Burton perform a couple years ago here in western Canada. Sold out show, small theatre( 650 or so). One man show, just him and a piano. He’s still got the chops. He’s a legend in his home town of Winnipeg, Manitoba. When my favourite band, The Warning, performed there in November, with Three Days Grace, it was in the Burton Cummings Theatre.

@@coldlakealta4043 Nope. Just looked at a short video I took at the time. It was a Yamaha keyboard.

@@coldlakealta4043 He used to travel around with a huge white Steinway (very expensive, high quality piano) on wheels, but switched to digital pianos during the 80s the roadies are probably thankful..

WOW!! Every note on song. Loved the lows as much as the highs, the lows kind of technical but effortless and seemed to just roll off the tongue. Major goosebumps. Fwah!!

Randy Bachman was the other half of the partnership that was chiefly responsible for the Guess Who. Yes, there was even controversy over the band name with the 'Who' in England (Daltrey & Moon's band). The Guess Who were the perfect storm at the end of the 1960s. Clash of egos. Resolution on stage (hopefully). Their albums, even their two Greatest Hits albums, give you a feeling for what they were all about. I've always enjoyed their sound as a fan... But lack the musical knowledge to dig into it and analyze it. What a treat to hear you break it down. Burton was always the special performer. You can hear that in his records. From his 1981 album "Sweet Sweet", 'You saved my soul' and 'Bad News' are standouts. From the Guess Who, after 1970 without guitarist Bachman, 'Albert Flasher' and 'Life in the Boodstream'. Then you have all the Guess Who hits from 1969-1970 when the two were together. But until I came across this video I had never put it together. Cummings is an incredible vocalist. Technically, not just by fluke or habit. And wrote most of the Guess Who songs.

I grew up listening to a lot of BTO and Guess Who in the seventies and thought Burton Cummings was a great song writer and composer. He and Randy Bachman are Canadian rock royalty. His voice is definitely unique.

Just watching the passion on your face; One delightful facial expression segues into the next as your mind dotes upon each performance in earnest. Between your beautiful smile and those wonderous eyes, I can barely manage to pay attention to anything beyond. You certainly make me smile. Thank you so much. Oh, by the way... Stand Tall is truly one of the most amazing songs ever created.
