I sometimes ask myself when Patton will finally get the recognition he deserves. He is, without a doubt, one of the best vocalists of all time, yet somehow the mainstream or the canon of music culture never fully embraced him. This is a man who created Fantomas' suspended animation and sang in Mondo Cane. Who else has this range? Nobody.
@rezonaut

F#%k the mainstream. You think Mike gives a single little piece of his faeces about mainstream? He is absolutely free to do whatever he wants as an artist, he's having a huge number of devoted fans, each thing made by him is pure phenomenon. Would you give a f@*k in his shoes?
@cynthiajones7514

He is not with mainstream cause that is what he chose to do, he chose to not sell out to the masses of mainstream success, FNM became successful after TRT then they created AD and they were told they committed commercial suicide. he even changed his look after the pretty boy era of TRT cause he refused to be the poster child for MTV.

@@bring-out Well you literally have no idea what you're talking about then. This was not by any means the best song to exhibit his range but that certainly doesn't mean he doesn't have it. To put this in context, Mike has a 6 octave range where as Freddy Mercury had 3 with rumors of 4 but never proven. Yeah, Bohemian Rhapsody guy, 3 less octaves than Mike. Try a different song.

He acts extra goofy on tv late night shows , he spazzes out a bit for fun , he has some great collaborations with other artists and is in about 10 other bands , he made it cool to mix styles in 1990 when he first started singing with faith no more , listen to Mr Bungle his experimental band that was insane

He definitely "spazzed" on late night appearances, back in the day. Largely because he resented the network's overbearing imperatives placed upon them. The most memorable one being when a British tv appearance forced lip-syncing on him, and he (rightfully) went complete payback mode, brilliantly. The footage is easily available of that one, but he always acted extra goofy on these tv one-shots. Generally anti-establishment music-wise since the beginning.

Back in the day....as in, when people started listening to Faith No More, they were shocked, blown-away, disgusted, surprised (insert description here) about Patton and his voice, especially the eclectic style FNM had at the time compared to "metal" or "rock" if you will. He never stopped making music with Mr. Bungle even after FNM were signed and popular. Possibly shy without the music but definitely a great singer with a huge range of abilities. The man has many talents and you just touched the surface....dig deeper and with an open mind. Stay beautiful and classy #RVA

This is one of the most beautiful/fun/great reactions I've ever seen... Rebecca, I personally believe he is the best lead singer in rock and roll (this affirmation could be a little biased simply because FNM is my favorite band)! Maybe you've followed his other performances after this video, but if you haven't, I kindly recomend you to listen to any song off of the "King For A Day Fool For A Lifetime" album. Songs like "Gentle Art Of Making Enemies", "Ugly In The Morning", "Just A Man" or "The Last To Know" will amaze you how wide his vocal range is...! Thanks for reading!

great you are doing Mike Patton... usually takes more than one video to cover his range though ofc. Patton does things that shouldnt be possible vocally, using his voice to make sounds like an instrument. its a journey just discover his abilities spread over so much material/genres. it can be very abrasive but also beautiful, crooning fun and obnoxious often all at once. i'd suggest Mr. Bungle ~ Retrovertigo Tomahawk ~ God Hates A Coward (Live) Mr. Bungle ~ Carry Stress In The Jaw Fantomas ~ Twin Peaks (Come Firewalk With Me) Peeping Tom ~ Mojo all of these are wildly different styles and all done by him. Insane Genius IMO. ps. love kate bush ;)
