I absolutely think conor is one of the best male vocalists around right now but he's so underrated. I got to see him live last month and it was just as amazing as you'd think it would be. Also ps Jeff Buckley is a huge vocal inspiration for conor so he'd probably be happy you picked up on that influence.

The depth of his emotion comes out whenever he sings. And if I get high is filled with emotion. One of the great voices in all of rock and practically no one knows about them. They are absolutely incredible. On top of that, they care about the quality of the sound they produce. Sat next to their sound engineer and he went into the crowd with a mobile tablet, taking sound readings and then came back to the table and adjusted a number of things and what little distortion there was before was then gone. Incredible!

The way you got so emotional during the last song (Lover, Please Stay) really resonates with me; I always get tears in my eyes as well. Not only are the lyrics heartbreaking (it’s basically about your s/o slipping away and into depression, from what I understand of it), the vocals are spot on with it. Conor starts super soft, like he’s gently trying to break through his loved one’s wall of depression and trying to reach to them, but as the song progresses and it proves more difficult to hold onto that person, Conor’s vocals become louder and more desperate. The bit in the clip is right at the end of the song, and it always reminds me of those times when you’re so heartbroken by something all you can do is yell and cry - that last chorus is him crying out to the other person, and ending in a very soft note, almost like he tired himself out and he’s just whispering his last plea. I strongly suggest hearing that song in full, it’s an emotional experience, really. One of the things I really love about Nothing But Thieves is that all their songs are constructed very well, and both vocals and progression of the instruments truly reflects what the lyrics are; each song is a story not just lyrically, but also musically, really. They are amazing at what they do, no doubt about it.

lolitaspeach yep, it is. The bridge always breaks me because, as someone who can very much relate, it sounds so raw and desperate, and very real. I love how Conor opens up about how it really feels, and breaks the stigma that simply having a significant other will suddenly cure you of your depression; he’s not afraid to ask for help and beg their s/o to stick with him as he tries to rearrange himself back into an healthy state of mind.

I've seen NBT twice now and truly it is an insane, magical and surreal experience. I took my sister with me the first time, and she had never listened to them before, and she was absolutely shocked. They played in a dive bar with about 600 people so it was pretty compact and she wasn't expecting anything much at all. Safe to say it was one of the best nights of my life, they were so much fun and absolutely incredible. I've seen a lot of bands in my time, Panic at the disco, Twenty one pilots, elton john, beyonce, and truly they gave the best show. They didnt have big screens with videos playing or anything but themselves and their instruments. I hope everyone who listens to them to one day get the chance to see them live because it is genuinely life changing. I watched your video to see what you thought about Conor Mason and his ethereal vocals ... I’m most happy to find you loved him; and then you mentioned Jeff Buckley - and it was then I knew - you had the same reaction I did when I first heard the band and Conor’s singing - he can sing as beautifully and emotionally as Jeff did... then I was reminded of the time, in the mid 90’s, when I had won tickets to see Jeff perform in a special live private performance hosted by Sony... I was so in love with his voice... a huge fan at the time. And then the reports that Jeff had died... my heart sunk... I’d never get to see him - ever. Even before his death, his music, his singing, made me very emotional, made me weep... I found it hard to listen to his albums for quite some time. I never thought I’d ever hear another man sing like Jeff Buckley, and then I heard Nothing But Thieves sometime in 2015 on Alternative radio... I immediately gravitated to their sound and bought their CD and fell for Conor’s voice (and the band as well!), later hearing the influence that Jeff Buckley had on their music... wonderful to hear such emotion again, almost thinking it was Jeff reincarnated... oh be still my heart! Conor made it easier to once again listen to Jeff Buckley... and validated my belief that both their voices were and are incredible gifts to the human species... Thank you so much for your amazing spot-on wonderful critique of Conor’s voice!! I could see he struck you to the core, as he has done to me too.

Can I quickly mention that the guitarists of the band (Dom and Joe) write most of the music, with some input from Conor.

You can't say that for a lot of vocalists but he sounds better in person. He puts so much emotion while singing it makes me cry.

Hey Rebecca, Happy New Year! Any chance you could do a refreshed review? They've just released a new album (Moral Panic) but I'd love to know what you think of the last track of their previous album called Afterlife.

NBT grew up listening to Jeff Buckley and finds a lot of inspiration in the Grace album it’s what got them to start a band and I think it’s amazing that people think of Buckley when they hear NBT it really shows where they came from 💛

I've seen them live twice now and the thing that's really wild about Conor is how he fills the room. Even his gentlest and most delicate notes make the whole venue resonate in a way that I haven't seen other singers do.

I’ve seen nothing but thieves about 4 or 5 times, and every time I leave the show completely amazed. The first time I saw him, there was about 50 of us in the crowd and they played a song called ‘temp you’. I fully cried and felt emotions I didn’t expect. Was truly amazing!

They are UNBELIEVEABLE live. Had a run in with all of them because I was so early to the show at this tiny venue- their tour manager told us to go rest out of the rain and he gave us his number to call when it was almost time for doors :''') got a picture with dom and chatted with him and joe and said hello to the others. Literally the best day of my life. Joe shredded his guitar inches from my face. (And may have stepped on my fingers a few times when they were resting on the edge of the stage.)
