This is one of my most favourite pieces. Here it is superbly performed by every single person involved. The orchestra plays beautifully and complements the older pop composition well, giving it a gorgeous and lush sound. I might be wrong but it sounds like it kind of reveals where the composer came from. Gary Brooker gives everything here, and the result is astonishing, especially considering his age. His vocals are no less than fantastic, and even better than when he was younger. And so is his piano, simply great as absolutely tasteful. Through and through a great song, this rendition is what modern music could be - aural pleasure, music for adults. Thank you to all involved, thank you to the reviewer.

I know that you are a vocal oriented person and his singing is magnificent, but that Hammond organ line has become hard wired into my synapses for decades now. I still recall as a teenager hearing the studio recording of this song over a pair of big Altec Voice-of-the-Theater loudspeakers set up in a moderately sized listening room of a Team Electronics chain store in a Kansas City shopping mall and everything just gelled perfectly. It wasn't played at the thundering volume levels (these were auditorium class units in an utilitarian gray painted cabinet, 15 inch exposed woofer and large compression driven horn) that they were capable of, it didn't need to be. They could whisper sweetly as well as roar. And that glorious music . . .

Procol Harum was another band that recorded with an orchestra, LIVE with the Edmonton symphony Orchestra in 1971. You will enjoy their recording of Conquistador off that album!!

I love this song so, so much. My dad always played it on vinyl when my brother and I were growing up. So many great memories attached with this song

Yes indeed...a classic, and this live version is a heavenly version, and tribute to the vocalist...who is the same man who sung the original. My God...he has actually gotten even BETTER since 1967. This...is ...priceless.

I had to take a moment and check but, yes, that was the first time I'd ever heard the sentence, "I'm not normally a fan of the oboe." Good job, Beth.

I think Gary sang this better in later years than the original recording ! This song is my most favourite song of all time . When I was in high school I had a on again off again girl friend that I cared for very much . We would break up and be at the same dance and when this song would be played we would find each other and dance to it . Then we would start dating again ! It brings back so many great memories ! Still love you LAC !

Growing up, Procol Harum was my favorite band. I saw them in person about 4 times and I still have their first 9 albums. My favorite song is probably Homburg from the Grand Hotel album. The whole band were such great musicians. This was actually one of my least favorite songs back in the day (probably because this was the one everyone constantly played), but he does such a brilliant job with this song.
