One of the great vocalists of all time. He should have been as famous as any of them.

The good ole days. I loved Ernie Andrews. One of the great vocalists in the business. A real treat for me was sitting in his home in California for an interview on my show. His son had to hold the camera because I was alone and had nobody else to hold it. But it was important to capture this legend on film and talk about his career. I'm grateful to you my friend. Bless you and yours.

This guy was right up there with Lou Rawls and NAT KING COLE. He's like an even more fantastic hybrid of BOTH of those pros.

He swings as hard as any jaz TENOR Player has ever swung, his timbre is magisterial as is his PURE MUSICIANSHIP and his charisma too. I guess he chose to stay in LA and be a real family man after many years on the road with The Harry James Orchestra rather than pursue stardom. But he is a star! I think he's the greatest living singer - period! I wanna find an album of him, with strings, singing ballads - THAT'S my desire!

Came back for another little "taste" - this time my ears were trained on Andy Simpkins, it's almost dawn and I'm listening with headphones. He IS the funkiest bass player that ever lived.
Check this FANTASTIC 2016 Ernie Andrews concert with a stunning trio made up of the great Eric Reed, piano; John Clayton, bass, and young Rob Perkins, drums: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1G2fv2eCZl9ilqw

If I may add... isn`t that Paul Humphrey on drums? (One of my very favorites - and I truly deeply mean that!! Check that great Shearing/Joe Williams video concert - the most discreet and hip drum commentaries possible - his sound and swing are magisterial. I guess I really do dig Paul Humphrey!).

What was this show? Ernie is playing tomorrow at the Central Avenue Jazz Fest @ 1, by the way. Thanks for posting. Makes me miss my old friends, especially Brock.
