It is very obvious that you really enjoy what you do! Teaching, though an art, also requires passion and you possess it in abundance. Your dancing eyes are irresistible! While on the subject of factors affecting voice quality, as you pointed out, type of food has little effect on it; but what is inhaled can seriously affect the voice e.g. smoking, highly polluted environment.

Great to see you back. More than anything else I admire your exceptional ability as a teacher which needs not just in-depth understanding but deconstruction of that understanding so that one can identify exactly where a new learner will falter and address it accordingly....that is a mark of a great teacher. And as a doctor this series entices me as well to do some experiments with a bronchoscope. Thank you.

Beautiful explanations! Since the series has ended, I am not sure how you'd respond to the queries posted here. IMHO the best approach would be to post a FAQ episode. Thanks in advance! Many vocal coaches recommend two best-practices: (a) gargle with salt water every night, and (b) sip warm water from a flask during the performance. Are these practices really effective in a scientific context? Secondly, all singing coaches talk about the importance of warming exercises before doing the riyaz. What are these warming exercises? How do they improve the vocal cords? Thirdly, coaches also say that we can extend our tonal range gradually, by singing our present highest note for as long as we can manage, and repeating it. The next day our vocal cords are able to produce a still higher note. Is that true? and if yes, what is the working principle?

Thank you🙏

I loved your talk. I lost my voice 22 years ago. It became hoarse leaving a gap between the folds with air escaping. I talk well enough to function but I just cannot even hum. I used to sing Mukesh’s songs , not anymore. I am 82 and I am getting injection of Larangoplasty this month end. Do you think I can sing again.

This was very informative. Extremely grateful for all the info! I do have some questions though: 1. Can GERD affect your voice? 2. If you get teeth alignment surgery(post wisdom teeth removal), is that something that can affect your voice? ( I'm curious because I've seen various cite Freddie Mercury's teeth contributing to his sizeable vocal range).
@AnujaK20

Those are some interesting questions! Acid reflux is a tricky subject. Some health specialists say it does affect voice production while the others say it has no direct effect on vocal folds so doesn’t directly affect voice production. However, Acid reflux might cause uneasiness in the pharynx and thus could lead to difficulty/irritation while trying to talk. About vocal range: vocal range depends only and only on the thickness and length of the vocal folds. Articulators like teeth do not determine vocal range. Hope this was helpful!
