Welcome to Voiceplay's rabbit hole. Beware: it's deep, rich, and makes you addict 😁. Voiceplay and Home Free both participated in the 4th season of the show "Sing Off", and they toured together afterwards, if I remember correctly for maybe a couple years? Anyway, they're good friends ever since, and even collaborated in some different ways. 🙂 Voiceplay covers pretty much every genre. Even classical music: they made a cover of "In the hall of the Mountain King" for Halloween 2022 that is just unbelievable. Hilarious, yet virtuosistic. 😅 If you like their harmonies, I'd suggest you give a look at their "melodic" production (sorry, I'm bad at genres, for me there are only two genres in music, GOOD music and BAD music 😁), like "I can't make you love me", or their cover of Radioheads "Creep", or "I can't help falling in love". But just because I got the impression that many reactors just pick their most upbeat, "rock-ish" stuff. 🙂 Other songs that will make you shiver are their Vikings pair ("My mother told me" and "Valhalla calling"), their post-apocalyptic trilogy (Imagine Dragons' "Warriors", Aerosmith's "Dream On", and The White Stripes' "7 Nation Army"), their gaming stuff ("Halo Theme", to be watched to the very end... Even if the second half has no music in it), "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim", and at least another one I can't remember now)... And all of their Medleys, from Disney to Broadway. Oh, and they OWN Halloween... and are really fun, I love their humour. Try "You're a mean one, mr. Grinch" for proof 😅. Subscribed in anticipation for more Voiceplay... And to see you react to your first Geoff's solo song. 😉 See you next time!

I'm glad to have another reactor in the VoicePlay lineup. This one came from The Pirates of the Caribbean. A few videos that I find spectacular are: Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound), Creep (RadioHead), Nothing Else Matters (Metallica), Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, an apocalyptic trilogy over 3 yrs - Warriors (Imagine Dragons), Dream On (Aerosmith), Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Drunken Sailor, Friends on the Other Side (Princess and the Frog), Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame), Wicked, I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), We Don't Talk about Bruno (Encanto). Geoff does some solos: Sound of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel), Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers), I See Fire (Desolation of Smaug), Jack's Lament (Nightmare Before Christmas) are top of my list although I'd never turn my nose up at the rest of them.

VoicePlay is known as the theater kids of a cappella. They did get their start in the parks (Disney World for one, maybe?) in Florida. This video was probably done in the studio owned and run by group members Layne Stein (beatboxer) and Tony Wakim (who works behind the scenes now). Tony is the Phantom in their video Phantom of the Opera and he one of the passengers in their wonderful skit from, I think, from the Sing-Off tour called Road Trip. Their videos (in order) Warriors, Dream On, and Seven Nation Army make up a post zombie apocalypse series. They've undergone a lot of member changes for various reasons and they're down to 4 permanent members with the fifth place covered by various friends. One of them left to sing for the navy and comes back when he can for videos. Warriors and their Metallica cover for Nothing Else Matters are the only times you'll see a violin played. To finish I'll recommend my usual favorites. The Halo Theme and Drunken Sailor feature former members of the group from their earliest days when they were known as Four2:5. In Boy Bands in 5 Minutes you not only catch a quick glimpse of their wives, girlfriends and husband, the friend of the group that Scott Porter talked about at the end of Halo does a quick walk through. At the end of Daddy Sang Bass they're joined by spouses, children, and parents and sister for the then unmarried J None. I'll stop now. Enjoy!

It's always fascinating to me, watching someone discover VoicePlay for the first time. Even more interesting is that you chose this particular song as your introduction. Don't get me wrong- you'd have had a great experience no matter which song you picked, because VoicePlay doesn't put out anything other than excellence. But this song. This was a reactor killer. Reactors who knew VoicePlay, and who knew what they were capable of doing were still floored. Some just ended the video with a shrug and an utterly baffled look, not a word spoken. One guy jumped clear out of his chair- forgetting that he was only wearing boxers. And somehow, with their next release, VoicePlay got even better. Which is more or less how this group rolls. They just keep expanding and growing and evolving, and every release improves on the one before it. You will never grow bored with these guys, and they will always surprise you. They aren't limited by genre, and pretty much perform whatever strikes them whether that is a Metallica cover, some Patsy Cline, the Halo video game theme, Broadway, Disney, pop, rock, or a familiar classical piece of music that doesn't use a single word (In the Hall of the Mountain King). Oh, and everything you're seeing and hearing- the arrangement, the vocals, the video- it's all 100% them. They are unsigned, independent, and they do it all.

Welcome to the Voiceplay Rabbit Hole. Any song you react to will blow your mind. Brief introductions Top Row: Cesar de la Rosa (guy with the dead eye) the Sassy Baritone/Tenor who is the newest member José Rosario Jr featured artist also featured in My Mother Told Me and Drunken Sailor (definitely check them out) Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson (bald guy) Rock God Tenor. He does most the lighting and special effects. He also arrange a few songs and helps with others. Sitting down: Layne Stein beatboxer/vocal percussionist. Co-owner of Patty Cake Productions were most of Voiceplay videos are recorded. He also does about half the arrangements. Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci Bass Singer. He does about the other half of the arrangements. He also has his own channel where he does Low Bass Covers and has mastered the art of cloning himself. He also has a five octave range. Voiceplay and Home Free are actually friends and help each other out with different things. They even did a short collaboration on a song that was their battle song from the Sing Off. Zombies vs Hillbillies (another must see) Songs that I'd recommend (we'll go with some Christmas songs since it's the season): White Christmas Your a Mean One Mr Grinch Christmas Don't Be Late (the Chipmunk Song) Mission: Jingle Bells Baby It's Cold Outside What to get a Wookie for Christmas From Geoff's Solo Channel: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas Mele Kalikimaka Enjoy the Rabbit Holes. Oh wow, are you in for a treat falling down the Voiceplay rabbithole! I see you've already done 'Nothing Else Matters,' so here are a few big-hitting follow-ups for that: 'Valhalla Calling,' 'Seven Nation Army,' 'Creep,' 'Dream On,' 'Hellfire,' 'Carry On Wayward Son...' J.None is a 'guest artist' for their most recent ones, but he was once part of the group when it was a full-time five-piece. He's doing a five-year service in the Navy at the moment, and most of us Voiceplayas suspect that the group's current system of having a featured artist is a way of holding J.None's place open until he finishes his Navy service. Geoff (subterranean Bass Guy) also has his own solo chaneel, which is also worth checking out (he does all of the harmonies in layers himself for those, unless another artist specifically appears with him.)

When working together around the time of the Sing Off I believe Tim Foust helped Geoff Castellucci (the bass here) learn some of the bass tricks that both of them do. It's impossible to pick a favorite for me because they are both so good in different ways. A fun Halloween solo work by Geoff is his cover of Monster Mash the other Halloween cover that is more on the serious side is Jack's Lament. He also has a cover of Blackbird by the Beetles that is a good listen-there are many to pick from.

Rules for watching Voiceplay: 1. Always play captions if they have them since VP sneaks in fun stuff sometimes. 2. Always watch to the end, they sometimes add little end credit scenes or fun info. 3. Always read the expanded video description. They are super talented and do the majority of the work themselves but are really great about crediting those who help like when they need specialized make-up, steadycam operators, and so forth. This was a great reaction. Most Voiceplayers will tell you that our favorite thing is watching someone react to Voiceplay for the first time. Along with the many recommendations below I highly recommend you check out the bass singer, Geoff Castellucci's, solo channel. He has a 5 octive range and arranges all the music and sings all the harmonies, often cloning himself which is added fun. The entire group has a great sense of humor and doesn't take themselves too seriously. Have subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff.
