Rachel is the only guest singer in this one. At this moment in time for the group, there were these 5 regular members: Eli, Earl, Layne, Tony and Geoff.

You probably learned this in chat, but the first guy to remove his mask is Earl Elkin. The Phantom is Tony Wakim, who now owns Pattycake Productions with Layne. Both are former members of Voiceplay. Did you just throw a carrot? Dude!!

Layne must have left it there!! 🤣. (Note to Chris: Layne has this thing about carrots. I don’t know when it started - the first time I noticed it was in their Frozen 2 medley which you should check out just to see Adriana - she was 15, yes 15!!, at the time they recorded it.)

Yes! I was waiting for you to get to this one! LOL. This was like the first of their theatrical videos. This is one of my favorites by them. Rachael's final note brings tears to my eyes EVERY single time. 😆 So. Tony was the Phantom, and was a member earlier on. Currently he part owns PattyCake Productions along with Layne, and yes his voice is AMAZING. I love, LOVE his vibrato so much! Earl, the one you didn't know, was a high tenor and long-time (founding) member. He left in 2020 for personal reasons. You already know Layne and Rachael. Geoff here was still with his very short hair. I love what they did with this one. It's SO good! I figured you'd enjoy it. :)

Yay, I am so glad you reacted to this one! It’s one of my favorites from them. 💜 Some others you need to check out are Warriors with Layne playing violin and Boybands in 5 Minutes where they go back in time and cover all the boybands along with choreography for all of the songs. Both are amazing 🤩

What, you don't recognize Earl without the beard? The other guy, with the mask, was Tony, who left the group a long time ago (before J-None joined). This is about six years old, and at the time (and for a while after) it was by FAR the best thing VoicePlay had ever done. They didn't start doing stuff at this level of quality on a regular basis until at least a couple of years later. The first hint that they were going to be able to produce quality _consistently_ was when they dropped Attention, immediately followed by Moana, and then a couple of videos later What's This. Even then, they had some weak releases mixed in for a while. It's only in the last couple of years (starting around Little Mermaid) that they've altogether stopped releasing anything that won't blow your mind.

Yes, Tony was wonderful, but he really just didn't like the toll that touring took on him, which is why he bowed out. In the clips I've seen of Geoff and his wife, Kathy, performing in the Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue at Universal Studios, I've always assumed that was Tony with them playing Dracula, can anyone confirm? One of my favorite live clips of Tony is "The Chicken Song" (search out the full version filmed in MN). Pattycake Productions is doing some wonderful Disney Villain videos, featuring some original songs by Tony and Layne.

Yes, I think that’s Tony in that same Beetlejuice show as Geoff and Kathy. It both looks and sounds like him! 😊 Kathy shared a link on Geoff’s Patreon, I think she said that Tony was in there too but I’m not sure that I remember correctly.

@@veronicathunander4579 Thanks! I thought it had to be him, but I couldn't find confirmation trying to search online! I love seeing glimpses of him in the video shoot livestreams that are shot at Pattycake, he's always busy and he still has such beautiful eyes.

Yes, that's Tony as Dracula in the Beetlejuice Revue with Geoff and Kathy. The full Chicken Song, filmed by an audience member in MN, is hysterical. They're all good but Tony is especially funny. You can see him in some of the BTS stuff for VoicePlay and Geoff's solo work as they often film at Pattycake. In Kidnap the Sandy Claws (featuring a pregnant Rachel Potter) that's Tony in the Oogie Boogie costume... though I'm not sure who's doing the "nom, nom, nom" sounds.

Earl is one of the originals (see him in all older songs & Queen in 5 Min), as is Tony Wakim (the Phantom). He stopped singing and bought a building a few years back (He was on the Sing-Off with VP back in 2014. He and Layne both have half interest in Pattycake Production Studio where often VoicePlay (and some Geoff solos) do their videos.

Thanks for your reaction--I love this one! As you already know from the other comments, the Phantom was Tony an early member of Voice Play. He owns PattyCake Productions with Layne so he is still very much a part of the Voice Play family--he just did not like the demands of touring. I miss his voice, his beautiful eyes and facial expressions and his acting but enjoy seeing him on their PattyCake Productions site. Please react to "Road Trip" from their "Sing Off" tour; you will see more of the talent of Earl and Tony in that one and it is a live performance that is so much fun!

Yes, Tony (the Phantom) was their baritone until 2015. After he quit it took more than a year before JNone joined as baritone instead. Then he left in summer 2021 and Cesar joined as baritone in August. Earl was their tenor1, an original member, and although it’s been nearly two years since he left, they haven’t found any new tenor 1 yet. I hoped Deejay Young would join them, but he’s touring with Hamilton so it’s not possible. Deejay is featured in VoicePlay’s versions of “Bang”, “You’re My Best Friend”, “Man in the Mirror”, “Butter” and some minis. I enjoyed your reaction!

I’ve never been a fan of Voiceplay, and while they do a credible job with “Phantom,”IMHO they couldn’t have done it without Rachel. This a cappella version is probably the first time I’ve listened to an a cappella performance and missed the instruments (particularly) the organ.

I always have to wonder, when I see comments like this, why someone who doesn’t like VoicePlay would watch a reaction. Not arguing with you I’m just truly puzzled. And I think it goes without saying that they couldn’t have done it without Rachel. Earl’s tenor is high but it’s not high enough for this!
