It's always great when people who understand what goes into creating a performance (visually and thematically, I mean) get to watch and appreciate VoicePlay, because yeah, they are doing some damn fine work out there. That's one area where they truly shine, with no competition in sight. Here's a great example (and a series of videos I highly, *highly* encourage you to watch and react to)- VP's Trapped: Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes, followed by Panic! In 4 Minutes, Parts 1 and 2. You see, VoicePlay made a set of videos with medley/mashups of Panic! At the Disco in 2018, with a rather tense storyline. Then, over a year later, they filmed the prequel- Trapped: Billie Eilish in 3 Minutes. Their attention to detail is incredible- the date shown on the phone at the beginning of the video, the clothing they're wearing, the way their hair is styled- it is all done to match up with the videos done over a year earlier, in details as well as in plot. Because Trapped occurs immediately prior to the Panic! videos, in the story timeline (VoicePlay has confirmed this). I've heard people try to argue that this Queen medley is the final chapter, but in actuality this video was inspired by a real life medical emergency Earl suffered while they were on tour.

Layne and Eli pulled bits from Queen’s catalog of music specifically to tell a story. This was just after Earl had a health scare while they were on tour. Aside from Eli mentioning Freddy Mercury’s interest in mythology, the rest of this comment is based on the video and my own research as an amateur student of mythology: Anubis (Egyptian) (J None), Cerberus (Greek) (Layne) and Yama Nirvana (East Asian and Buddhist) (Eli) are all guardians that convey souls to the underworld. There is visible tension in the video between them and Geoff’s character, Baron Samedi (Haitian Voudou). Baron is the master of the dead AND the giver of life. A person will not die if Baron refuses to dig their grave. So while the others want to get on with it, it’s the Baron’s decision. It’s only right that he is the last one to face Earl before Earl’s return to his life.

I knew they were gods and playing afterlife roles and Geoff was like the "bad guy" but after this and seeing there acting a whole new appreciation has dawned on me

Actually, it was Earl who had to have his appendix removed.

Another person commented that Baron demands payment to give life. The medallion that Nick puts around Earl’s neck in the beginning is not there at the end. And that person theorized that in death, most ancient cultures would put coins with the body to help them pay for their way into the afterlife. I thought that was pretty astute and really really observant! 🪙

Love it - thanks for doing this one. Tell Katie she was missed, hoping she's feeling better soon. This one was arranged by Layne. I'd vote for Warriors next (or soon) it doesn't have a full story line (like Hoist the Colors) but loads of ambiance, costumes, sense of place and time. And Layne plays the violin spectacularly.....

And a good follow up to that would be the cover of Aerosmith dream on which they have dubbed Warriors 2.0. Same post apocalyptic feel. I don’t know if this is true or not but I’ve heard it said that Geoff commented that the zombies came and got Earl and J. Later they found Cesar and Omar wandering around and gathered them into the band.

I’m not quite sure I follow the storyline in this, except in a general sense (health crisis and he lived-evidently this is inspired by Earl’s actual health crisis). But I loved the medley and all the parts in it. And I think this is one of the riskier covers they’ve done. Queen is so iconic. Great reaction!!

Gods of the underworld fight over Earl's soul. Anubis, god of death, mummification, embalming, the afterlife, cemeteries, tombs, and the Underworld, in ancient Egyptian religion. By weighing the heart of a deceased person against Ma'at (or "truth"), who was often represented as an ostrich feather, Anubis dictated the fate of souls. Yama, is a deity of death, and the underworld who predominantly features in Hindu and Buddhist mythology. Guardian who ,though not named, would be the Norse God Heimdall, The Guardian and Sentinel of Asgard. Baron, (Baron Samedi) one of the gods of Haitian Voodoo. As well as being the master of the dead, Baron Samedi is also a giver of life. He can cure mortals of any disease or wound, so long as he thinks it is worthwhile. So he was on the other side from the others. Ultimately Earl recovers of course.

How VP can take any genre, make it their own, tell a story, and make it special--amazing! Time for their Boy Bands in 5?! Maybe Geoff's Blackbird for jaw dropping range?! The choices are nearly endless. XD

Uncle you have to hear Halo from Voiceplay. Invite gamer(s) to listen. Don't stop at the end, because one of the singers tells why this song is a tribute of a fallen Voiceplay member.
