I am amazed at how accomplished both Earl Scruggs and Josh Graves were at that time in their lives. They were both exploring new territory with their chosen instruments. No one was teaching them. They were coming up with all of it. And sometimes you get a taste of Lester Flatt's musicianship when he plays a background acoustic blues tune while Josh is reading the "hello's".

Earl credited Snuffy Jenkins as having been a great influence on his banjo style.

I am a huge bluegrass fan as well as an intermediate banjo player and I am inspired by the bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs. What I have noticed one thing apart from his excellent style of picking is that his facial expressions...yeah it's a bit crazy! You'll see every time after he smiles he will always go back to his original stable facial expression which I find it so much humble down to earth and a wonderful gentleman he is. His introductory words "Thank you, Thank you very much" which melts me so much! Love him!!!

I find also the fiddle player’s expressions are so interesting. He concentrates and gets happy or annoyed at it.

Stone Wall All Around Your Heart Now I’m so broken hearted I don’t know what to do I passed you today on the street And you treated me like a stranger that you never knew It’s the same every time we meet You built a stone wall all around your heart Though my arms ache to hold you as before You built a stone wall all around your heart You won’t let me love you anymore How have I hurt you darling why won’t you say What have I done to you For I still worship you dear in the same old way How could you forget the love we knew

Those ridiculous comedy routines were a standard part of every act right up to the days of "Hee-Haw" a show with a cast of former comedians who had worked with well-known country music and bluegrass artists going back to the 1940s.
