That might be corrected by some trim, but this P-51 is one of the hardest to LAND "beginner planes" we've ever flown, and I've flown her in 2 brands, and kinda hate them both ;( (keeping in mind, when we filmed this, there were FAR fewer good options, so might have ranked a bit higher...)

Not sure, and don't want to burn her up just quite yet. I used 2S 850mAh ZOP packs and worked way better. Lot better feel on CG, and lots more flight time BUT...her landing gear are not well glued, so better GREASE the landings with a heavier pack, or you'll be fixing the delicate prop, only after taking off the even more delicate egg shell spinner :(

Brian, thank for this video man! I got mine two weeks ago and I’ve kept it on the table half finished because the manual is horrible!! THANK YOU for the detail and going over the build. As far as the prop, you helped me so much! I had no idea with the bad instructions and extra screws, but’s, etc. - I think you may be a tad bit off with the way you put the prop together though! If you look closely, the washers are different widths. What I did on mine was: 1. Thin Nut, then THIN washer. (This keeps the gap smaller) - then Prop. 2. Then thicker washer, then that one-off/weird nut, followed by one of the remaining 3 normal nuts. Thanks again man

Chinese directions are bad, like usual....you wouldn't believe how horrible the directions are on our new 54" drum mower...video series soon to be released, FYI...but needless to say, it was a multi-hour endeavor, with 2 steps in the manual... Step 1) Unpack the pieces (then it shows the pieces on a crappy picture) Step 2) Assemble the pieces and then install the skirt. YEP, that's it...and this thing could EASILY kill you!!! In fact they make better students (always prepared)! Enjoying your postings. Regards, Jimp

We've been doing that for a while now, flight first, and I think it's good for audience retention. When someone wants to see the whole thing, they can just sit back and watch, but I know that some like the "surprise"....but that's kinda bogus anyway, since you'd have to be clicking on the thumbnail to choose to watch it...unless you get notifications, and blindly watch, like a good subscriber would do - LOL ;) As for Megan flying...she's just not interested. I try to strong arm her into it on the "easiest" to fly, but she can't drive an RC car around the room, so it's just not her thing. She does, however, make a great "camera crew", and has so much better than either of us expected! She also deals with the huge fluctuations in our family schedules. This is the hardest part to show in the videos, since we don't want the videos to "show" this part of the sacrifices of making all these videos. She and I have to get the house ready to film. Many times, she'll have to rush to clean up so that when I get home from a 10+ hours work day, we can film. The kids go down in our basement, where they admittedly, don't have it too bad, but the mess befalls us when we enter the dungeon...again, "Camera Crew" feels the brunt of this effort. The 4 kids are accustom to starting their day late, and ending it late too. This is normal for us, but most people think we're nuts (which we are)...but when you want to make something happen, you have to just do it...which is what I'm good at, and Megan helps to facilitate this. When we decided for her to stay at home with the kids (she had been a teacher by trade) that was part of our trade off. She'll help me to achieve my dreams, and I'll help her reach hers. We make a good team, but without her help, I don't know how I could do it!

Thanks Brian. So I have noticed some issues with mine. 1.) Tried repositioning the landing gear to move Cg a bit further back. I can't move the battery. It as you know only has the one spot for it to go. 2.) My flaps are not centering back to full level when testing initial startup. No matter what they have about a 5 degree up/down at center. I tried quickly turning the threaded rods. Could it be more an issue with the servo/esc/gyro center calibration position? Tried resetting gyro and turning on and off receiver several times...still aligns up where flaps ailerons are slightly up/down at center stick. Yours doesn't seem to be that way? I also noticed last night while charging the battery on my balance charger that it was heating up and started to swell?! Not good from my understanding of charging lipo batteries. So far EXHobby (whom I purchased from) has been communicating with me but there replies have been less than satisfactory. They are telling me I need to find a smooth paved or wood upward hill to take off from. They also are not taking any accountability towards sending me a new prop or safety nose cone from the damage sustained by this plane chewing up payment right from the first attempt at takeoff. They haven't addressed the battery issue yet either. So far, Iam not very impressed by this company or the possible lemon of a jet they sent me. Wished mine worked as well as yours. I had really high hopes man. Any pointers kindly appreciated. I know it only cost $150 which is cheap compared to other jets but not even getting it to take flight is just frustrating.

It's been so long since I touched that plane, I can't honestly say. I thought there was a toggle switch on the radio, but if not, you can also move the linkage on the control horns so they're on the other side, if it's running backward, BUT you need to make sure the direction of travel from your sticks is the same as the direction of CORRECTION from the stabilizer / auto-leveling, otherwise you're plane will try to flip over all the time.

How does this compare to eachine 400mm warbirds? Is this worth the extra money. I have flown a lot of rc stuff but i am new to planes and I have flown only 2 ch airplanes and i want to upgrade now. I like it LESS. I would consider this plane to be one of the less good flying planes that we've reviewed, but no matter what I try to tell people about it, they buy one anyway... It's not BAD flying, it's just hard to land, and has it's issues. As for the 400mm warbird series...WAY better, and super fun! I know this is an older post, but I bought one of these planes and I am hoping that at some point someone reviewing this plane with experience will put it out there. The plane is simply not so good and after making the mistake of buying one I can honestly say it's a waste of money. Now the mini version super fun well worth the 70$. This plane is not a bigger better version of the mini. Just Saying....
@BrianPhillipsRC
4 жыл бұрын
Gary, I felt that this plane, because it was bigger might be better (and a reasonable persons could most definitely expect it to be incrementally better than the micro, but I too was not nearly as satisfied as I was with the micro sized one. I won't go so far as to say it's a "Waste of money", just because the micro one was unexpectedly good! I'd say this one is still fun, but given the budget, I'd skip the 850mm(ish) size class, as it's just a tough size class to get right, and go straight to the 1.2m Horizon Hobby P-51D. The problem is, the 1.2m HH P-51D is a whole other price point, so all things considered, this plane is still just fine, but not amazing. If you want a better plane, you'll have to pay about 2-3 times for it, OR get a different one all together. That being said, since I've flown about 3 of these "medium" sized P-51's, and they all fly "like this"...so I can't bash this one too much. I thought I was pretty fair in my review that this plane wasn't the "best thing since slice bread", but sometimes people expect that I'm going to give a "pass/fail" assessment. there's reasons why this item might work well for someone, and I don't want to trash it, just because it's not as awesome as the micro variant. Hope this makes sense; I don't mean to mislead - I have nothing to gain from putting people into crappy products...other than pissed off comments.
@garys3418

@@BrianPhillipsRC Hey I totally get that and I don't want to be one of those pissed off commentators, because I'm not. Its like anything else in life somethings are simply better than others. The plane flies and it is relatively inexpensive you do a great job reviewing the products. I will simply state in my opinion for those that care to read their are better flying planes for the money (perhaps not an 800 size warbird) and I do agree its seems the flight geometry doesn't work well in this size for some variants. This plane is not for beginner in matter of building. Horrible. Mine came with no preinstalled aileron servo, had to mount it and... Aileron rods didn't fit in servo levers, had to make bigger holes with soldering iron in it. Also mounting of elevator is badly designed and even if I put both screws, elevator still wobled, replaced screws with wooden sticks with bigger diameter. Manual is useless, wouldn't have build it without YT tutorial. Tuning of elevator and rudder rods was hell. I was affraid I could damage it every second, cheap looking parts. NOOOOOO don't do it! There's better choices....this plane is actually pretty hard to fly (well...to LAND). I want to help you out, and there are BETTER P-51's if you are a first time RC pilot. Here's one suggestion. I know it's kinda lame compared to a bigger P-51, but to be frank, I wouldn't recommend the BIGGER ones yet...you'll end up crashing it and being what we call a "one and done" - new pilot buys one plane and quits due to a terrible experience - You may be included to think you'll be the exception to this rule, and if you are I congratulate you, but unfortunately, you won't, and neither was I - LOL - you CAN do it, but I highly suggest starting with something a BIT more "guarantee" to give you a good experience. Hi from Germany! Thanks for uploading all your videos! Very entertaining and some useful information!I have bought the rtf Version and received it very quick from Czech Republik. First impression was nice, but a closer look showed some quality issues: Lower foam hing of the rudder was cracked, as I could see in buyers comments on banggood. Not nice, but no problem, as the rear wheel mount holds everything in place. As I am a belly lander, I have cut of the rear wheel (plane looks much nicer!) and i dont use the landing gear, which cracks often enough. A bigger downside was, that the right aileron was bent on the inner side, close, where the linkage is mounted. the foam also was very soft. I suppose, that the chinese wanted to break free the linkage of the aileron, which was blocked by excess glue. So they have damaged the aileron. I could fix that by bending the foam back and harden the surface by adding CA glue. On the maiden flight, i noticed, that plane was turning right. Back home, I inspected the linkage of the aileron and had to correct it . On the second flight, I immediately crashed after launching, as by mistake, I have reversed aileron action. Supposingly I have held the aileron stick too long on one side during pre flight surface control. I didnt notice the aileron was reverse and the gyro automatically added aileron to the wrong side. Result was broken prop, spinner and the fuselage nose a bit compressed. then i used the spare prop and the drag to the right side was still there. again i took off the wing and noticed, that the receiver board was not level on the adhesive pad. So i suppose, that this was , why the gyro made auto corrections, that resulted in the slight right turns. I have put the receiver in place, but as i am waiting for 2 blade props and nylon spinners, i didnt have other flights.I have noticed, that the Volantex Mustang is identical with the Ares Mustang, that you have reviewed years ago. Replacement Props and Spinners are available , as well as the plastic cowling for a small price. Volantex doesnt provide anything, except the 4 blades . So in comparison to my eachine mini Mustang and the Mini Corsair, I am quite disppointed by the quality of the Volantex Mustang

The landing gear has a very vulnerable fixing point - we left it off and we propose to simply hand launched, once I have fitted a Gyro (which I like to fit to smaller planes). There is also so much confusion as to what battery is correct with only a 10amp ESC I think only a 2 cell will be correct?

Thank you! I heard about your little Chinese "Flight plan"....at least they can sell it back to you - LOL ;) The batteries they come with are okay (really for both planes). Pretty normal. If it's REALLY bad, you can move the control arm to allow for LESS output from the ailerons. This will CALM down the stabilization. For example, if the servo horns all the way out on the end, move it in ONE hole. This will calm it down. You will have LESS control authority on that axis (the roll axis) form the transmitter as a result, but this might make it easier to fly too ;)

Yeah, that would be on our list... if you have one you want me to try, you can send it...otherwise, I'm sorry for the delay. We use PC and TV with a large stereo...so we can always hear, but realize some platforms are not loud enough to hear, and then the difference between camera crew volume and "me" volume can be an issue too. Sorry Marty

Ha Ha my natural instinct is to cram and ram my worry is that the servo wires will foul the actual servos. In the end I chose an MX3 evo gyro married to a Flysky receiver with foreshortened servo wires, we will see if I am successful - will let you know as I am breaking new ground with this. I thank you for always responding to me, you and your camera crew are really nice people.

Thanks Brian, and we do wish you luck! REMEMBER, this plane likes to fly pretty fast, so don't try to slow down when landing, just fly her into the ground and then chop the throttle...I know, easier said than done, but if you can pull this off, you'll enjoy this plane (and it's crappy landing gear attachment points) for many flights ;) Good luck Brian!

Move the rudder stick on your Transmitter, and let it go...does it go to the left/right, then come back? It's kinda weird the way the rudder works in BEGINNER and INTERMEDIATE mode...but in EXPERT mode, the surfaces should just "work" like normal.

Brian can you take a photo of the Gyro-- mine came as a PNP no Gyro and the NX3 Giro I have purchased is difficult to fit in the confined space that there is in this plane. Cable management is really difficult too

Just ram it in there, and make it work...seeing the way they did it won't help. It's a strange multi-purpose brick, and I don't have a way to share pics easy here. Sometimes you just gotta cram and ram, and hope for the best. If the wires reach, you'll be fine, but don't bind your servos.

Hello, Brian. You all right. I am returning the contact with you because. I have a question and I would like if possible that you can and I would like if possible that you cansolve it. Well, I respect your. Knowledge and experience in aeromodelling. The question is this: The radio control or transmitter 2.4Ghz of 6 channels with FHSS system is compatible for the model of the airplane Volantex rc 768-1 Mustang. For I think to acquire this radio with greater resource and range. However i do not have thisknowledge . I ask you to kindly answer me about it. Thanks.

I flew the P51 for the first time this evening. The tail was constantly wobbling(?) like a maniac and at a certain time i couldn't even turn anymore. I try to land it on the pavement but it hit the wall, (i had no steering) Now the crash has bend the pin (where the prop is attached to). So &^^$@#$ disappointed.. as its my second plane. Anybody here experiencing the constant wobbling at the tail? Thinking even of buying second one, but i am getting a bit scared of this Chinese stuff now. Perhaps the electronics or gyro are not working correct, maybe i got myself a bad model? Didnt dear to fly it on expert mode.. as i am only just used to the Eachine P51 intermediate..

This plane is not a super easy one, compared to others. This P-51, in this 750mm size class is a strange middle size. I've flown the Ares version and it too had some bad habits. I would highly recommend a better choice for you might be something like this, if you're wanting to learn to fly, and have a better time with it... Apprentice Mini RTF - bit.ly/2VF0Gh9 Sport Cub S UMX RTF - bit.ly/2xN4WTO ...but to be totally honest, they're all Chinese. I'm sorry you had this issue!!!

yes, this plane is not the easiest plane to fly. some planes are just a tough size....higher wing loading, and this one in particular is tough. You gotta FLY IT...not like the little one, which essentially flies itself, and you point it where you want it to go.

Hi Brian, Great video! I bought one of these recently and after setting it up, everything was fine except the throttle. It would cut out if i went above half way up on the throttle stick although it felt like full power was half way up. I think this is a calibration problem or something. Would you be able to tell me how to recalibrate it if this is the issue? or if there is a different issue with it. Thanks
@BrianPhillipsRC
4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have a bat battery possibly. Some of these planes have LVC Low Voltage Cutoff...but you might be right about calibrating the ESC. Typically, to calibrate an ESC, you would power up as usual, but you'll have the throttle stick at 100% (something you normally wouldn't do), then when the ESC starts beeping, you'd return the throttle stick to 0%. This would normally calibrate the ESC Throttle Range, but not sure if it will work on this RTF.

My question is I really want to work my way up to the A10 you reviewed what would you recommend for follow on plane after this mustang? Oh, what a loaded question... Being that I'm your "favorite guy" I can't go and give you bad advice ;) Do you have a Spektrum radio? If no, here's where I 'd start... Apprentice 1.5m RTF - bit.ly/2yusxZi ...the reason I'd start here, is that you can fly it, have a blast, and learn with similar radio to what you'll be using eventually with the A-10. You'll be upgrading from the included radio that comes with the Apprentice, but you can use the DXe for a few simpler planes. After you're done using SAFE, you could easily handle the A-10, but it's expensive to make the jump from Apprentice to A-10...I will help you figure out what you need, but it will be pricey!!!

It's too bad for its size it has no navigational lights nor retracts and it may have a short radio range for that planes size. On Amazon i saw it being 320' range for this plane. If so,it's too short of a range for this plane. Seems that your wyfe is gaining knowledge of these planes quickly!
@BrianPhillipsRC

I agree retracts would be nice, but it's just not a big plane...retracts this small are usually pretty much garbage in my experience. You could add them, but what this plane needs is an OUTBOARD ailerons, and some HUGE INBOARD FLAPS ;) Then you could slow down and land easier :)

Not this one, but you might be able to fly the MINI. This particular P-51 has gotta be the worst P-51 I've flown. I hate to have to keep saying this, but this P-51 is just OKAY...it's not BAD, but it's JUST Okay. It's hard to fly (land) when compared to most other P-51's I have, or have flow, and I've had quite a few, being the P-51 is very popular. Here's the MINI (400mm wingspan) Planes... (We have videos on all of them, but the F-16 which has been filmed, but it's not ready to publish yet) T-28 bit.ly/3398xse F4U bit.ly/3h3OhNI P51 bit.ly/2JQDtDj F22 bit.ly/39Zvf6r F16 bit.ly/2YTmTKg P.S. When you buy from our links, we get a super small commission, and we really appreciate you following them if you'll eventually buy. Please note that I'm talking out of a more expensive plane for a cheaper one...I want you to find success, not just get a cool plane that's going to fly once - You can do it. These Mini Warbirds are pretty sweet, but if you're new to flying, maybe consider these ones too...Very good flying, and even easier to fly... Sport Cub 500 amzn.to/36z22Or / bit.ly/3c3Yqqn Mini Trainstar amzn.to/2SHuzxr / bit.ly/2Xqk2Jy Micro Trainstar amzn.to/2QJtfaV / bit.ly/2JW7TUK ...BUT, if you still HAVE to have this P-51 (From the video) here's a few links to satisfy your curiosity! P51 Red Tail amzn.to/2uuy7ZT / bit.ly/2XrfKRR FINALLY, sometimes you just gotta crash to learn to fly - LOL ;) Do what you think will make you happiest! Good luck!
