You can do aileron rolls without losing much altitude. Just begin the roll while pitching up. If you try one while flying level than, yes the AC will plummet. It's a really fun maneuver to pull when inverted at the top of a loop. Make sure you do this in Advanced Mode.

In Expert Mode it does pretty decent aileron rolls, or Split-S. The Mustang is a bit more agile, but this one is certainly fully aerobatic. I find it easier to stay most of the flight in Expert Mode with this one, than with the Mustang.

Hi all. Quadcopter's 101 advice about checking the control surfaces is spot on. I got one of these based on his review and helpful replies to my question, and found that the plane wouldn't even taxi straight inside on hardwood floor! Various things needed some tuning including wing height, wheel angles, rudder alignment (with needle nose pliers) and even the rear wheel. After all these adjustments, the plane now taxis very straight. However, one thing I did notice was that when spinning, the propeller spins within about a centimeter of the ground. When we tried to taxi down an asphalt road just to try taxiing, it was just bumpy enough that the flex of the front wheels caused the plane to dip at times and the propeller to strike the asphalt. The propeller got dinged a bit and even popped off per the built-in protection design. I don't know if the front wheels need to be brought in closer to basically raise the nose of the plane to avoid this.

Hi Q101! Would you consider doing a "Basics of how to fly 3 channel and 4 channel RC Planes" similar to your excellent tutorial series on quadcopters/drones? Great little plane this. Interesting that you got the One Key Return function to work by pressing the lower throttle trim button till it beeps to set the direction (14.13 - on camera) and then pressing the top throttle trim? till it beeps (off camera at 15.13) and keep fingers off right stick (that cancels it) since the manual says to do it the other way round. Maybe the manual is not perfect or it works both ways. We'll check it Sunday. Either way I believe I saw somewhere that there's a V761-6 coming. Once more into the breach dear friends? ;-)

be careful to not lose the brass pinion gear off the motor shaft, mine fell off during a taxi maneuver that ended in a really minor bump to the nosecone on the propeller, never got to fly it once! good luck with trying to resolve with Bangood too. I've read several comments from other owners on youtube reviews, stating the same issue, So I HIGHLY recommend a small drop of CA glue or hotglue, anything to ensure retention of the little brass gear to the motor shaft or youll be stuck with a shelf display ornament like mine! just be very cautious not to over do it with the glue and lock up your motor! Good Luck and Hippy Hobbying to all

+1 on this! We've lost 2 pinion gears out of our Super Cubs from the Banggood Oz warehouse. The gears alone don't seem to be available as a spare part. Currently researching 11 tooth quad pinions as replacements.
@theoztreecrasher2647
4 жыл бұрын
OK Update! These things are great starters but if you crash under power the motor pinion will be spun on the shaft and lost. The brass gear is hard to come by on its own though you can buy the motor with gear (and also gearbox) from Banggood (use Eachine/Volantex mini P51D Mustang parts.) It's much cheaper to pick up a set of quadcopter 11tooth pinions but most will be 1mm shaft. So you will need to have access to a set of mini pin drills (used in jewellery ) or clockmaker's tapered broaches to expand the holes to 1.2mm then superglue them on the shaft. Lots of people have this problem with the 10mm motor unit on this but the 8.5mm motor used on the Volantex V761-1 Mini Trainstar seems OK. The pinions for the Hubsan H502 brushed quad mesh fine (1mm hole) but there are quite a few others. The Hubsan ones are not toothed right across so if you can mount them with the blank section behind the driven gear it may help with retaining the pinion. But maybe it will then spit all the gears! ;-)

I just got one of these a few days ago and I like it a lot. It's an excellent park flyer and it's super durable. The issue I'm having, believe it or not, is that I can't get it to stay in the air on "beginner" mode. I can fly in "expert" mode with no problem at all. That's not a problem for me, but I would like to use it as a trainer for friends and they would need to start at the beginner level. When my plane is on beginner and I hand launch it, it will climb to about 15 feet and then roll over and go down nose first. Happens every launch. I've busted 6 props already. The damn propellers I've had to order cost more than the plane itself! Any ideas?

Turn it on, place it on a flat level surface and connect it to the controller. Place it in beginner mode, take your hands off the stick, and check each of the control surfaces (rudder, elevator, and ailerons) to make sure that they are all centered. Pay particular attention to the elevator as its sounds like it may be off centered upward, causing the climb and stall. Also make sure that there are no uncommanded movements of these surfaces. If any are not in center position, adjust those U bends in the push rods to center them (needle nose pliers and a flat head screwdriver can be used to do such).

@@thebunkreport If QC101's notes don't fix your problem then you might check your output shaft. If your propeller is making buzzing noises you will generally find that you have bent the iron shaft and that vibration is overwhelming the gyro's capability to stabilize the plane. I bought the E-flite cub several years back, but it's so fragile. They made the tail surfaces too thin. This one looks more durable. The E-flite is light enough for me to fly in a tennis court though (zero wind speed). I was also looking at the similar 761-3. How odd that the SPORT cub has ailerons, but the SUPER cub does not and is only 3ch. ;-) Hence the SUPER is the easier one to fly and the better beginners plane. I DO recommend a bigger plane than this for newbies, as they react slower and are easier to fly. The 761-3 will do nicely as a second plane and this 4-channel 761-4 when you are ready to learn to fly with ailerons. I had become well skilled on three 3-channel craft before I felt confident enough to attempt 4 channel. Push-button stunts are a joke. it's more fun to learn to fly them yourself. If you want to fly stunts with the gyros off, I suggest moving the pushrods to holes in the control horns closer to the hinge points for more control authority. I already did that with the P-51. P.S...... If you get in trouble in manual mode, do NOT just pull back. If you are in a diving turn or spin, pulling back will just tighten the spin. LEVEL WINGS first, then pull back. If spinning down to the left, quickly hit full right everything and then full up, to get out of the spin and point the nose up, then level and fly it out. I've saved many planes that way while training new flyers. P.P.S......First thing I thought of when I saw that jet in the distance was "F-22". That is IF I am seeing the shape of the tail(s) correctly. Happy flying!

That's interesting that you recommend beginners start off with 3 channel planes before progressing to 4 channel models. I'm a beginner and my first and only plane is a 4 channel Delta Ray. I think I did mostly fine flying this plane. Ive had a total of three flights and no crashes. Though I did have a fly away with the maiden flight (the plane was found about 2 - 3 days later.) Using ailerons seems natural to me. I was happy with my landings too. I did have a fair amount of practise on a flight simulator beforehand. Though I admit I hardly ever use rudder. I'll have to get used to adding some rudder for sharper turns. I fly manual quadcopters as well so I'm used to the concept of four channels. I am considering the Volantex 761-4 as my second plane.

Quadcopter 101 ... quick question... most every tutorial I watch on beginners flying a four-channel plane says to use just aileron and a bit of down elevator for turns. Is this how pros fly RC planes? In your tutorials, you taught us how to use BOTH aileron and rudder with quadcopters for tight, banked turns, with sticks in same direction during turns. Why the emphasis in youtube tutorials (and even flight simulator lessons) on turning a RC plane with aileron/elevator alone? We tried combination aileron/rudder/elevator on the Volantex and the result was a much quicker and tighter turn.

Hi George. The tail wheel assembly is actually permanently mounted so should not be loose. Are you saying the entire assembly is detached from the plane, or just the wheel? Yes, it should turn freely so the plane can taxi and land on a hard surface. If your tail wheel assembly is completely detached, I would contact your seller for replacement. Good luck!

Hey @Quadcopter 101, i was wondering if you could help me solve a problem. I am pretty much a noob at flying so i'm not sure of the specifics on this one. BLUF: The throttle of my plane isn't working. After i power it on correctly (Transmitter first, then plug in the battery and let the plane dance for a few seconds). The motor arms (2 beeps), but when i raise the throttle nothing happens. I've had a few hours of flight on this plane and it has had a handful of crash landings, but nothing too serious. The motor is a bit loose in the fuselage, but i am afraid to cut it open and not be able to fix it. Any ideas? (I already tried looking it up and it says something about ESC and throttle trimming, but i don't think the default controller has a throttle trimmer).
@Quadcopter101

Let me make sure that you are arming the motor correctly. 1) Power on the plane first and then place it undisturbed on the ground, 2) then turn on the transmitter. 3) Then move the left throttle stick full up then full down to arm the motor. 4) Then slowly move the throttle stick up to start the motor and fly.

Hi Quadcopter101! I ended up getting this plane because of your review but had a question. We are flying in a nice open ball field with grass. The grass is mowed and every time we do a landing, it seems the wheels sort of "dig" into the grass, the plane tips in nose first, and the propeller saver system pops the propeller off. Is this a consequence of landing in grass or is saver system defective or not fitting correctly such that the propeller pops off too easily? It is kind of a pain to have to keep putting the propeller on after landings in grass but, again, maybe this just happens if the plane is stopped suddenly against the resistance of the grass and it dives in nose first.
@Quadcopter101
4 жыл бұрын
Yep, you will need to land on a smooth surface to prevent the nose from tipping. Also make sure to cut the throttle just before touching down to avoid the prop from disconnecting. By the way, it disconnects to avoid damaging the motor or propeller shaft should the propeller strike an object while under power.
