Kelly is the man! Such a sick day of surfing and such good commentary makes it even better. He's absolutely right. This day was meant to be ridden by the guys who were prepared for it. 8 years later, still one of the best days in the history of surfing and it was all recorded live. This is the future of surfing: recording the best live free-surfing sessions. No one will forget this day. Memorable!

This was the awesomest thing I have ever seen in surfing...period. Good call not having the contest, would have wasted some of the best waves the world has ever seen.

"I don't think it's the best thing for the tour". Interesting quote from Kelly and I reakon there will be more from others in the coming days. The teahupoo "big day" was fair enough because it was impossible to paddle. Today was clearly on and it looks like the tour is one big chicken. I can just hear it now: "sorry, I don't want to surf flawless waves because I might get injured and then I can't make mega $ from all the events that are gonna be held in 2' mush".

did you not listen to what kelly said? it was a great call, we got to see more waves ridden this way and besides, the comp finished up in great waves and the king himself prevailed... it WAS one of the best surf comps in ages!

in my opinions i think that surfers can choose to not risk their lives, besides volcom would be in big troubles if someone die in these massive waves during the competition, and there are security rules of ASP. Its not as dangerous as red code teahupoo but anyway it's a very massive swell there

F&*k that shit, I'm big enough to admit I would have stayed in the boat! I've had miserable experiences from Cloud Break at 4-6 foot, that's just a death sentence! Although I’m no pro… but if they don’t want to go - fact is - their choice.

Clearly you were not in a lucid moment when you wrote this post. If there is something Kelly Slater is mastering, that's surfing. His accomplishments over the 25 years on the Pro Tour are authoritative in the world of surfing. You probably are either too young or too jealous to admit that. And no need to insult gratuitously.
