@@RoboLegoMindstormsPL the 'bell' creates a seal against the tyre and presses the top bead away from the rim. This creates a gap between rim and tyre, and air is pushed in. At Saturn, the original balancer was a static balancer, which got replaced by a Schenck-Turner POS. Schenck-Turner eventually got black-balled from GM for a number of years, and I am happy to say that I had a fairly large role in that. :) Shreveport had a Micro-poise balancer. Not a bad balancer, just be sure to not try to balance a deflated tire. Otherwise it will spin the tire on the rim and let loose with a ton of smoke (and ruin the tire and wheel in the process).

@MAG OutdoorXtvt yes I don't mean that in general. It's all I've done my whole life, but even at that, it's still not that difficult. I don't mean to downplay how cool it is, but when you see it daily and learn how it all works, it really is easy. There are key components to making it possible which are encoders and servos and servo drives and controls. It is not a single person or entity that makes it all possible, but all of us together. It's a very fun profession especially now.

These machines are the product of teamwork from electrical engineers, software engineers, and mechanical engineers. If you want to be part of the design process of these machines, you can study Electrical Engineering and specialize in Embedded Systems. Embedded Systems engineers also often do software work as well, and they focus on actually designing the electrical systems that will be physically inside the robots and that will perform monitoring tasks, local control tasks, and interact with a general monitoring network. These engineers often cooperate with software engineers, as software and hardware are heavily intertwined with one another. Then, mechanical engineers may design the moving parts, using their knowledge to make them meet the specified requirements, that will heavily depend on what their application is gonna be. The whole design process involves professionals from different engineering disciplines "meeting around a big round table and throwing ideas and proposals around", then a lot of planning, a LOT of documentation, and, from experience, very little design work; the actual design of the machine doesn't takes that much time relative to the planning period, the prototyping period, and the testing period. As for where do companies get these machines: Well, manufacturing companies just buy them, and from my own experience, tipically from an asian company.

Tire manufacturers make contracts with car and motorcycle manufacturers for OEM tires. Well possible that the tire manufacturer delivers entire wheels to the car factories. Mostly those OEM tires are made in seperate plants amd have a bit less tread than what you would buy at a tire shop. That way, the purchaser of the car will need new rubber a bit earlyer, but because, for example, Continental is the OEM supplier, customers are very likely to purchase the same product as replacement when it was on the car from new.
