Why do so many Brits seem have this condescending attitude towards Volvo? It's a big turnoff. And they over praise the German cars. My ex had the s40. It's a fine small sedan. I tried the Mazda 3 version of this car and it was nowhere near as solid feeling as the Volvo. It may have been a bit sportier, but felt way less expensive.

Just bought one last month (here in Australia). 2.4i n/a 2009 model. Drove over two days from Adelaide to Brisbane (2000Km) to get it home. It was a great drive. Car drove beautifully. Enjoyed the Geartronic transmission's M option, particularly for overtaking the semi-trailers. Flick it across to M, two flicks back to put it in 3rd and then floor it. Went well enough for me.

I have a volvo s40 t5 which still looks great. Just be careful to change oil often as it eats it all quickly. I'm having my engine rebuilt this week's coming because of a thrown rod due to no oil. Expensive fix at $3k, but I bought it for only $4k last month. Total of 7k for a basically new car that is awesome fits for me.
@justine.3576
8 жыл бұрын
No car burns through oil to the point where it would throw a rod, that is total BS. You probably had a massive oil leak and neglected to check the level yourself. That or the shop you got the oil change from pinched the gasket on the oil filter and it all poured out that way. Half of the time with things like that, its caused because of neglect from the owner.

@@desmondlouis5762 It was fairly new with only 25.000 km when I got it. I had regurlarly had it serviced in a dealarship. Agree. Volvo should have remodelled the S40 and kept it. They've just quit completely their slot in the small sedan competition (the S60 is a mid-size and the C30 is, well... a hatchback). The S40 needed a facelift (it had been the same since 2004) but it was not time to die yet. Nonetheless I did finally buy my S40 T5 L2 early this year (one of the last remaining 2011's) knowing that it was going to be killed and I love it. No regrets, but damn it.. why kill this car?

That you drove the "old C Class" means that you drove a W203 or a W202? The new ones (W204) are rather nice and I love them. My previous experiences include mostly BMW (most of the time), a 1993 Volvo 850GLT (damn good car) and my dad´s old 1986 300SE MB (a damn landyatch, lol). I don´t have a family compact sedans suit me fine, I guess it´s a matter of seeing how does it feel to own a modern MBenz. Yeah, buy an Audi or a BMW instead. Or wait, they have already been making hundreds of thousands of cars in China for years! The Chinese made cars are for the Chinese market, it is that simple. It is very hard to make any profit out of imported cars in China due to the high customs barriers, domestic manufacturing is the key to success.
