The part of this video that helped me the most actually you listing the symptoms at the beginning. It sounds just like my problem. But any mechanic I tell these symptoms to, always tries to blame other parts. From the spark plugs, to the throttle body, to mass air flow sensor, to the catalytic converter. Everyone has a different theory, but none quite fit. The fuel pump makes total sense in my case. I'm really glad that it is something that I can fix myself without a lift. And It was also really good to see a video that included all the struggles associated with this repair, so when I run into them myself, I will know it is normal and know how to handle it. Thank you for making this video. This may very well be the fix I've been looking for, for the last 4 months!

Bart Rando Thanks for watching. Not a bad repair at all. With a turbo car - also check the air feed tube at the turbo for expansion joints leaks. Hard to see but can mimic a similar symptom. Be gentle in the fuel pump fuel level install and all will be well.

If you have a turbo version also check the air intake tube going to the turbo. Check for splits at the flexible joint. They can leak as the engine torques and cause a similar concern. This causes an unmetered air leak and stumble once and the on board computer will compensate for the rest of the key cycle.

Remember to put Grease on the threads before tightening, this makes it so much easier, if it's not tight enough petrol fumes will enter the cabin! 🤔

hmmm thanks a lot. I have an S80 but it os probably the same or similar. The way you described the symptoms at the start is perfect... My S80 sometimes has a hesitation when starting, but otherwise is mostly fine up until it has been driving for 20-30 minutes and I put it under heavy load like climbing a hill at 60-70 mph... In which case will often feel weak unless I really floor the accelerator, and will make an intermittent sputter or stumble "wheeze" feeling like you described. I don't think it is the trans, and the injectors/coils/plugs are new. New fuel filter, oil, and also I just rebuilt the PCV so it isn't an engine pressure thing. I'm 99% sure this is the problem. Gonna try doing this myself to save $1000 lol, I can't imagine it will be as bad as rebuilding the PCV system. That job was a 14 hour experience from hell with those stupid unreachable banjo bolt connections everywhere

Presenter illustrated some useful points on this job. Other videos fill in the blanks. Unable to see how pressure was released at beginning of video. Camera too far back and presenter often standing in front of camera. Similar situations on the send unit and pump. I'm not confident about replacing pump from this video alone, but it was very helpful when combined with other vids on this job.

my old volvo 740 4 cyl took me a full 9 hours in a snowstorm, but it was a wagon so I could lie in the back and work out of the weather. I knocked the ring loose with a block of wood and hammer., once it moved spray with silicon spray by CRC.. Lube the seal and locking ring when reinstalling. The pump motor is made in S Korea, very common part from autozone, $65. Volvo uses AC Delco elec motor in their fuel pump. The full volvo assembly was $285. No thanks.

What do you think. Can faulty fuel pump create a smell of gasoline in cabin after starting car? Others symptoms are: -rough idle and starting and once the car did not start at all, had to put more gas in tank. - car can suddenly die in traffic lights or at least idle goes rough again. These things happen only when 1/4 or less gas in tank. Not a single problem when there is more than that gas in tank. Car is 2002 V70 and i already have the replacement fuel pump.
@houseofbrokendobbsthings5537

Ja L Unlikely unless you have a vapor leak. There is always a chance for a line leakage or o-ring for raw fuel smell. These don’t generally create a running concern. If a vapor leak is present there would be a fault code for a evaporative emission leak. If unburned fuel is coming out the exhaust or from a exhaust leak they could be construed as a fuel smell. Unburned fuel would be caused by a rough running performance issue.

IasonasgolF Thanks for watching. I did not experience a fuel indicator issue. My first thought would be a broken wire - or the sender is stuck. There should be no need to recalibrate.

I'm jealous - I just replaced mine (also with a Bosch) and the pump only runs for about 1/2 second when turning on the ignition, and then stops, the car won't start (it ran before, but the pump was leaking).
@houseofbrokendobbsthings5537
2 жыл бұрын
Hmm that is curious. Not running at all would be easier. The pump should do as you describe and do a priming pulse with the key turned on. The transition to full pump engagement is powertrain module controlled providing the electrical is good down stream of the module. Are there any fault codes present?

@@houseofbrokendobbsthings5537 I think it was because the RH side was pretty empty, though I may have also jammed up the float since it was reading 0L. I removed and reinstalled it, and then added some gas, and it works. :) Only problem now is I don't remember where the 12mm bolt came from when I was removing the seats (it was several days between disassembly and reassembly)

Not as easy as from what I see you have to drop the S40 tank down. Not as easy as the S60. I would ask Robert as he spends a good portion of some days in and around salvage yards and may know for certain. www.robertspinner.com/ For Volvo Owners I highly recommend you try Robert DIY on KZitem for a wide range of Volvo answers. Previous owner gave the car to me two years ago. Good drivers car. The Swedes knew how to build one, but not how to make a lot of money.
