Hey all, it’s that easy. Dude is spot on. Really! Only advice is don’t put a breaker bar on the rotor retainer screw. I broke off the first one and spent 2 hours drilling out the remains. Breaker bar after a couple of shots with Deep Creep (penetrating oil, but better than PB blaster) over a week prior to doing the job worked like a charm on the 2 caliper bolts, but not the torx rotor retainer screw. Need to Hit that with penetrating oil, front side and back side, then work it out slowly with a regular 3/8 Rachet handle. The Second side literally took me less than 30 minutes to jack up, remove wheel, remove caliper bolts, slide caliper off, remove rotor retainer screw, bang on the rotor to loosen it up, then reverse and put it all back together. Saved $500 over local repair shop. You can do this!

Excellent video! You helped me a bunch doing my 2015 XC60 brakes. I also noted on both sides that the inside pad was considerably more worn than the outside pad. And I still can't figure out how that outside pad clip works. It doesn't appear to do anything.

Nice video, I would put some lube on brake pads arms so they don't get stuck and wear unqueally. Be careful not to put any on the pads or disks.

Hi, I can't get the caliper off once I removed the bolts, it moves a bit but it can't get over the corroded lip of the old rotor. Is there a way to release the caliper and pads without brute force?
@melchesgarage3283
Жыл бұрын
See if you can wedge a flat head between the pads and the rotor and depress the piston in the caliper a little like I do with the channel locks in this video. You’ve got to get that to depress some before you’ll be able to get it over that lip.

Melche’s Garage yes I saw that. On another clip I saw a job like this undertaken with the wheel turned out to give better access to the calliper so I’ll do that too. And I have a lovely length of pipe that slides neatly over the handle of my socket driver for triple leverage. A workshop must have! 😛

id use a c clamp on those pistons, a toothed surface my mess up the pistons seating surface on the pad. Also make sure you clean and use silicone grease on them.

Thanks for the video , Melche! It was very informative. Shouldn’t you open a little the calipter’s bleeder before pressing the pistons in? This should release the pressure avoiding the fluid to return to the brake system’s ABS, which could harm it.
@melchesgarage3283

Marcelo Tosin In my experience, moving the pistons that much is not enough to effect anything. If you have done it that way before and not introduced air into the lines than it definitely can’t hurt to do that. Generally there’s enough room in the brake fluid reservoir for the little bit of extra the fluid level will go up though. Thanks for the view and the comment!

ilhan halil seyhan I cant tell you with 100% certainty but I’m pretty sure it’s a 9mm. It’s definitely a 9mm on the similar xc90. I’d give one of those a go if you’re just doing pads. They’re much easier to remove.
