🇬🇧 We're back for Europe Day 🇪🇺, which we celebrated this year in the megalithic heart of the Alentejo, always in connection with Europe. We started the day at the Almendres Cromlech, where we met a team of archaeologists from Stonehenge, Avebury and associated sites (England), who are partners in the Sun Celebration project, as well as teams from the University of Évora, Évora Municipality and the Pro-Évora Group.
After visiting the Great Dolmen of Zambujeiro, we headed to D. Manuel Palace to discover part of the collection from these sites in the exhibition "From "Cabeço da Anta" to "Alto das Pedras Talhas" - Portraits of a discovery." This exhibition marks the 60th anniversary of the identification of these two archaeological sites in the Alentejo. In the afternoon, at a meeting between all the teams, we continued to design the project that will be part of Évora_27's cultural and artistic programme, crossing performing arts and science, memory and heritage, and relating them to VAGAR.
"The Sun Celebration" project, co-produced by Évora_27, Biennale de la Danse de Lyon and other partners, invites various choreographers to celebrate this megalithic heritage of the Alentejo through its relationship with other peoples and with the sunrise 🌞. The premiere will take place in 2027, at four different European megalithic heritage sites.
