So how do you stop the SymLink/HardLink breaking, caused by 3rd party tools that also alter modded game files. The same flaw that NMM had, and one that Vortex repeated. Popular mods like FNIS, and BodySlide, or any other mod tool that adds, and/or alters mod files, breaks the SymLinks/HardLinks, that Vortex requires to reinstall/uninstall mods, and full profiles. Vortex will say it's removed a SymLink/HardLink, but 3rd party altered, and added files will be left in the data folder, regardless of what Vortex claims, because the links were replaced by actual files. Full Mod file installs is the only fix, and it's what NMM used to do before profiles were added, but ... It's much slower to copy/move files than to use Symlinks/HardLinks, but doesn't have their fatal flaw, so "It just Works", but it's much slower. After many years of pointing out the flaws that using links causes (if 3rd party tools are used), Nexus has at last reintroduced direct file installs, but only as an option, it's not the default setting. Vortex users must either never use 3rd party tools on the data folder, or set Vortex to use direct mod installs to the data folder, if they use any 3rd party tools to change files in the modded Data folder. MO has no such issue, it has never used SymLinks, or HardLinks, it uses a Virtualised Data Folder, which enables it to keep the real data folder in a vanilla state. Ironically Nexus originally added profiles to "Compete" with MO, as if any basic "jack of all game engines" manager could compete with an advanced manager like MO, the master of BGS game engines. The other advanced master of BGS game engines manager, Wrye Bash, never stopped installing files to the Data Folder, taking the safe, but reliable route, instead of MO's more versatile, but virtual one.

This is not really the place for Vortex support, but I'd recommend updating Vortex and see if it fixes that for you. If not, report it to the devs. Sorry, I just make tutorials for people :) But I can tell you that I don't have the same problem that you have with regards altered or deleted files, so that should not be happening to you. But if you run a tool that adds new files to 'data' outside of Vortex, then Vortex has no way of knowing which mod they belong to. I would generally recommend against doing that and would always try to make sure any files you add to that folder are added through the mod manager you choose. But to be honest, if you are already using MO and are comfortable doing all the things you require, then I am surprised you want to use Vortex. Most people who are happy with MO stick with it. Vortex is a very different beast that requires a completely different approach. I am not saying there aren't benefits to using Vortex, because there are, but are they really things you need? If a mod manager is working for you, I'd stick with it unless there is something specific that you can't do on that tool.

Right now, when I launch XEdit/FO3Edit (outside of Vortex), it does not use the plugins.txt file where Vortex puts the proper load order in the proper Local/Fallout3 folder. I have a question. So I have made a new profile and transferred all the enabled mods and settings via dragging the bottom right icon over to the new profile icon, duplicating the settings. I originally cloned to make it easier, but I was getting an error in both scenarios, which is why I tried making a new profile over cloning. So when I disable a mod I have enabled on my original profile, I get warned that I dont have a mod enabled for the profile Im not using. But when I go back to the main profile and enable it, everything is enabled that needs to be enabled. Why am I getting warnings about a profile Im not using at the time? It seems like redundant information. Its annoying lol. I have made a new profile and am enabling the mods i want manually. Seems silly I have to do that to not get warnings. Doesnt make sense.

Huh...I think I've been unfairly judging Vortex and Vortex users. I use Mod Organizer 2, and the way it handles dependencies and conflicts via mod install order and the fact that I can have multiple profiles of modding setups are the main (and maybe only) reasons why I use MO2. Now, for every feature that MO2 has that Vortex doesn't have, after watching this video and the previous Vortex video, it seems that Vortex just handles the problem in a different way that's not necessarily better or worse, but it does have a more pleasant to look at UI and less cluttered than MO2. I don't know if I'll switch to Vortex or not, but I'll certainly stop trying to convince other people not to use Vortex anymore. Edit: Oh the variants feature in Vortex pushes it over the each for me. Vortex is better than MO, potentially. In MO2, if I wanted a different variation of a mod in a separate profile, I'd just have to have 2 separate installed copies of that mod with only one enabled per profile. That makes it just one more thing to organize and keep track of.
