I was there on the morning of that final day when I got my last ride. It was so sad to see it go. I hope Kings Island gets something amazing in its place!

This was the second coaster I ever rode at Kings Island during my first visit in 2017! I wish I got more rides on it, had the closing announcement not be so last minute, but then again, it is what it is! I remember it being rough, but looking back, it's a great classic!

My first two trips to KI, I think this was honestly my favorite ride there. I visited again this summer and this part of the park just seems so empty now. It was kind of hard for me to remember where things were back here because this was such a centerpiece. Only got to ride it a few times but I really loved it and it was definitely missed on this last trip.

I used to love Vortex. It was my favorite ride at the park for many years. It started to age rapidly and I would only ride it once a year, just to see how bad it had gotten. It amazed me that my final ride was so good. Easily the best I had for twenty years. It is very strange not to see it there.

Indeed it was! I almost kept all the non-Vortex chat in this video as it appears in the vlog from that time. However, I cut all that out to keep it Vortex related. I hope all is well with the new family! I hope to make it back to Kings Island at least a few times over the next couple of years.

I think it depends. I can't think of any ride manufacture that would have been able to make this ride better, considering its size. The technology didn't exist back then. Now, had the ride been announced in todays world, things would have definitely been different. I do love the RMC version of this ride! So powerful!

I loved vortex. I only ever had 1 bad ride on it and it was in the very back row. It may not of been the best ride at kings island but it was so iconic and I thing that is what people will miss the most about it.

Amazing video Sean. This one brought tears to my eyes. Vortex is very special to me for a very personal reason. I took my final ride 10/20/19 with my best freind and walked out of the station in tears on the last train of that night. I own one of the track slices that they sold off of it. It's my most cherished possession. Those offride shots you got are beautiful. Also Vortex's color scheme is my all time favorite. That deep blue and orange is beautiful. Watching the sun set 3 years later and hearing those taps again still brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Sean.

Great video. I only got one ride on Vortex during my 2018 trip (same with Firehawk). It was definitely one of the better Arrow loopers, though I still prefer Viper at Magic Mountain. Vortex had some great airtime on the first drop, a great color scheme, and that iconic Arrow sound.

I always credit The Beast for breaking my fear of "big" coasters. However, I did ride Vortex about an hour from when I took my first ride on The Beast. I wasn't terrified to ride Vortex as it looked like a larger version of Corkscrew to me, which I loved at Cedar Point. I don't visit the park as much as I used to but it always catches me off guard to see the area where Vortex used to stand, complete open.

Corkscrew and Vortex had a very similar feel in regards to the roughness. I wouldn't only ride Vortex once a season, if that. Same with Corkscrew. However, I will be a lot more sad when Cedar Point removed Corkscrew as it was the first coaster I had ever ridden with inversions. I took my firs ride on it in 1983.

@@SeanFlaharty oh that’s cool. Hopefully those rumors about it’s removal for an expansion are fake, it’s a nice classic ride that needs to stay in the park as long as possible.

The ride had some issues that needed to be worked on. The park simply didn't think pouring money to fix up the ride was worth it as the ridership was constantly low. Fixing the ride wouldn't have added anything better for the ride other than keeping it around longer, unfortunately.

Vortex will never come back as it was. Now, could another manufacture create something similar? Of course. But as far as someone coming in and redesigning it like it used to be, that won't happen. Vortex was going to be a pain for the park to keep it running for several more years. The same can be said for Son of Beast. There has been a strange rumor going around that the park will be rebuilding Son of Beast as it was. That won't happen either.

The ride ended its service life. Continuing to pour money into this ride while its ridership continued to dwindle was something the park thought wouldn't be too smart. It was in need of some major work which the park didn't think would increase the ridership had the work been done.
