@joegumble7028

ALLTINSOLDIER Hey, don't let it turn you off. Here's my take: With a low to mid power scope, any range finding you'll be doing, you'll be doing at max power; in this case, 4x. Furthermore, I really feel with first focal plane scopes, at one power, the reticle is either to fine to be usable, or, if it is usable, then it's too big and clumsy at full power. This allows them to find that sweet spot. That's my two cents. 2nd FFP is the way to go for 1-4 or 1-6 scopes. Cheers!

Vortex is "cheap" because it's made in china, but the quality is pretty good for the price with most of their stuff. I bought a pair of Vortex Raptor 8.5x32 binoculars for $130 and they work quite well. I get a very clear and crisp picture out of them.

Had this scope for about 8 years, I've had Strike Eagles, Razors, 1-6, 1-8, Leupold, Burris ...you name it.. and I keep going back to this one. I have two other AR's, one with a Aimpoint PRO and one with a PST 1-6 but the 1-4 is still my favorite. It looked like hell until I rattle canned the entire rifle. It's been abused and dropped and it just keeps working. Only complaint is I wish it had Motac. May see if the new Autolive Cap from Primary Arms will work on it. If anyone has tried let me know.

sevenpointsixtwo IMO the fact that you have to buy a $60 throw lever to make the scope usable is a MAJOR negative. It's the same with the Razor HD but $60 is a lot more significant at this price point. They could easily have avoided it by putting a little projection on the ring like most variables have.

@beaker2000

It is 1-4x magnification. It should work fine with a front sight post, with less light transmission due to the sight post. usually you would have a flip down sight.
@Oberstgreup

Robert Fleps It will blur some at 1X and be invisible at 4X. The reticle will be above the top of the FSP. You can't use iron sights (other than 45 degree offset ones) with any scope of this type on the rifle, the only way to use BUIS is to have a folding rear sight that will have to be folded down for the scope to be mounted.

Hi Verno, I use a HILUX CMR1x4 scope on my Marlin 336BL. I mounted the XS Sight rail with ghost ring sights as my BUS. This works very well. I needed to mount it in a "traditional" location (over the receiver) as the eye relief is not enough to allow a "Scout" mounting style. Great scope!

Excellent review. I'm currently trying to decide between this and a leupold mark ar 1.5-4 firedot. Your video helped a lot, especially in reviewing the reticle, as there haven't been many great resources to go over the brightness and elevation adjustments that I've come across. I've noticed this thing is pretty heavy, at 16 oz., compared to the 9.6 of the mkar. How much of a factor is the extra weight to you in transitions and general comfort?

Have been considering this scope for some time. I'm looking for a multi-purpose optic: usable for home defense and close-range stuff, but with the ability to transition to 4x for longer range stuff. My question for you is, how easily does the magnification ring adjust? I have a TAC30 and it seems like it is a little stiff, somewhat difficult to rotate quickly.

Looks like a great optic, but so far out of the price range of the average shooter, it's almost laughable. When the price of the optic blows clean past the rifle you intend to mount it on, its too expensive.

Viper because I hear the glass quality is much better and they typically go for $100 more. I was leaning towards the strike eagle but now I'm leaning towards the PST.
