I like the way Ukrainian speakers pronounce English. I appreciate the effort people make to speak English. I do notice that the sounds for V and W are sometimes transposed. Yes, you did very well with “vowel.” You seem happier than when I first saw you when you told us you were a refugee in Lviv. I hope you are doing as well as you seem to be and I hope your friends and family in Kherson are safe.

Oh, a budinok is masculine? I always thought it was a budinka because a house where you go inside and live is like a woman.

Wow. I started with the anthem, then Doulingo, and this is very interesting. I am a native English speaker and not so great at learning languages though I try very hard. Strangely, it has been the Spanish and Finnish I’ve learned that has made it easier to accept all the single vowels that represent “and” though I suppose after learning English nothing will ever be as hard. I am excited to learn more

Thanks Inna, this is very interesting and useful. I'm trying to make sound alternation become instinctive by reading aloud the whole declension of each new word I learn (and of all the words I know but have to look up again 😂). A video on consonant changes would also be great whenever you have time to make it. Thank you for your work 💙💛

Hello Inna, I think you might have meant alternation, not aliteration, in the title and the description?

I don't understand grammar terms well. I just cannot remember what they mean, and then trying to apply them in a sentence? I don't think I will ever get this right. Duolingo has taught me to speak like a dog.

I've met a bunch of Ukrainians who would say "wibes" instead of "vibes". Doesn't compute with me since Ukrainian has a "V" sound...
@1midnightfish

I think that's because the "v" sound is often quite soft in Ukrainian. I remember the moment I understood that "v" at times almost tips into "w", I started understanding so much more.

I am a 62-year-old Frenchman learning Ukrainian. Beginner. No, I am not retired, just really tired 😄I'm busy, so it will take time. I have taught French, German, and Spanish, and I wanted a new challenge. The last time I learned a new language was 30 years ago! (Spanish, super easy for a Frenchman). of course, you will be improving your English forever. Accents are cool, and having a foreign accent is charming, it's the charming cherry on top of the cake of you making the effort to speak the language of another culture. So congrats on saying "vowel" better! The only problem with foreign accents is when learners make no effort because they have very little motivation. That's a little bit disrespectful! I have always been interested in the Post Soviet world (Communism IS bad, don't be fooled, Westerners). Ukraine's heroic patriotism gave me a reason to choose the Ukrainian language as my goal. Слава Україні. Щоб швидко вчитися, я використовую Google Translate. Я щойно використав його. Це весело. Я набагато нижче цього рівня! LOL Акценти - це круто, а мати іноземний акцент - це чарівно, це чарівна вишенька на вершині торта, коли ти намагаєшся розмовляти мовою іншої культури.Tell me Google is not a a good substitute teacher...

In the Polish language some words don’t have vowel alternations: koń - konia (horse) kot - kota (cat) noc - nocy (night) jesień - jesieni (autumn) góry - gór (mountains) Some words have them: lód - lodu (ice) mój - mojego (my) swój - swojego (own) siedem - siódmy (seven) sześć - szósty (six) nogi - nóg (legs) słowa - słów (words) sioła - siół (villages, archaic form) Kijów - Kijowa (Kyiv) 😊
