With the release of BONELAB, I wanted to try to re-create their body remapping, partially because Unreal is great for that sort of thing, and partially because it's really cool and essential, I think, for any VR framework.
As you can see, this is definetely a work in progress. The way this is working so far is through IK Retargeting, a fantastic tool that allows you retarget any vaguely humanoid mesh to another by assigning synonymous Bone Chains that then run via an animBP.
Essentially, think of the orange guy as a virtual reconstruction of the player, with proportions and everything. Then, whatever out-there mesh we want to assign as the player character (for instance, a twenty-foot robot), will use the constructed skeleton as it's pose reference, which it will attempt to match.
