I appreciate you covering this! To clarify, I sent her a message to show my support of what she went through. I was not seeking consent since all the information was made public by the victims. I've covered a few SA cases in the past (like tora) and this was the first time I've had someone upset by the coverage. I hope they know my intention was never malicious and only meant to inform the community of the assualter.

Ok i legit left a comment on the video that Elara put out about the stuff happening to vtubers at TwitchCon. It went something like it urks me that VTubers think that outting someone on Twitter for crimes is gonna somehow make accountability happen. This whole situation should have been handled by the police and the person arrested. Thats accountability. I do not shame Elara for sharing info on this stuff. I say shame on the VTubers for not going to the police and reporting this person who committed legitimate crimes. It makes me annoyed that Twitter exists in this way sometimes. Edit: To clarify my stance, the original poster of the Tweets had said that she did not want to make her friends uncomfortable by going to the police. That, I believe, is the dumbest reason for not reporting a crime.

The Elara thing is the dumbest honestly. Here why, if you have a bad experience and don't want people to know or react or anything about your bad experience, you don't put that shit up in a public media where all can see. If you need people to talk to then talk to a trusted friend or a professional therapist, not making a post online about your bad experience, it's literally that simple. It's hilarious that everytime a person post a bad experience on the internet they magically expect people not to react. Don't be stupid people, if you don't want your bad experiences to be talked by random people on the internet then don't make a post about it.

I'll preface by saying that I do not care for Elara. However, she did not deserve the backlash this time. If she shared a video of the assault, then that's one thing; but simply reporting on a serious situation while providing accounts from the victims own public posts is just textbook journalism.
@John-Wolfe

How about this. If you don't want your name in the vtuber news don't post something that is news worthy publicy and yes Twitter posts are public. Don't say that your drink was tampered with at an event that is one of the largest for streamers. You can just call the cops and let them handle it. Or call a lawyer and let them handle it. But public commentary invites public responses. So don't post to the internet what you arnt ready to receive responses or questions about.

On the Elara thing, i believe both ends are understandable. Personally if i was a streamer, and happened to talk about my SA experiences, i definitely wouldn't want people talking about it, it's definitely something that is hard for me and most victims to speak about and i would rather have speaking about it be a contained space then moving on- so i would appreciate someone ask first then we'd go from there. But on Elara's end, it is something that was done by a public figure and it relates to twitch con and could possibly help protect others from falling to the same experience. So my conclusion... It should be spoken about in general, but when it comes to specific victims.. it's always good to clarify if they're comfortable with having the topic reopened in a new setting. I also find Elara not waiting for a response unfavorable, and the victim's aggressive attitude is definitely attributed to the trauma being fresh. This is really a complicated situation that requires a lot of sympathy. Also to clarify more: I think this specific situation is a bit more nuanced than others for a couple reasons; 1- The victim in question initially posted about it to get it off her chest and point out what makes SA.. SA and how important consent is. 2- after pressure from her fans, she released the account of the culprit so she can warn others. 3- After the situation got a bit too much for her and she wanted to return to regular streaming.. She made a tweet specifically asking for HER experience to be moved on from as it was overwhelming her. I believe given that she specifically requested for that, Elara should've put the culprits name out there but kept the victim out of it as per her request. What makes it more iffy is that Elara sent the victim a message asking if she can talk about it but didn't wait for a response before streaming.
@SalviVtuber
12 күн бұрын
It is a very nuanced thing for sure. I can definitely empathize with the victim, and any victim of SA. The public shaming for covering it is what got to me a bit. That is also why I made sure to redact the name of the original person who went to twitch con where I could. Didn't want to throw gasoline by having their name be out there again
@7andaswitchblade
12 күн бұрын
She should have kept it between her and the police instead of posting about it then, imo. Once it's in the public people don't need permission to talk about it. It's not like it was "leaked" or something, she shared it herself. You could argue it's discourteous to use specific names, but it isn't wrong to do so.
@phryos6541

@@7andaswitchblade maybe you haven't read what i wrote? She spoke about it to clarify something and to put out there who did it for the sake of other's safety. She then asked everyone to stop talking about it so she can move on from it and continue regular streams before Elara had covered it. That's a very reasonable request, you can ignore that request on the basis of news reporting.. sure. But that will make you a not so favored person by the one who's request you've ignored. Consequences, man 🤷♀️

I'm not taking any sides but what do you expect when you put this stuff on a popular social media? People are going to talk about it, if you don't want people seeing this kinds of things why would you post them in the first place? The blow-up is way off mark, other people talked about it, she did the same and even showed support and linked the vtuber in question to be supported by her community, so if attacking someone for doing it, you should also attack the others, not focusing on a single target makig it look more as a witch hunt rather than a general call-out.

Using False as a defense for Elara reporting on the event is a weak defense. Simply, False just have more direct connections to the people involved. If you looked at how False covered story, he wasn't just throwing out the names of the victims. He only mentioned two names in the entirety of the report: the Mythos talent and another vtuber who got into a direct confrontation against the organizer. Beyond that, it's mostly allusion to the other victims but no names were ever dropped. This means, most likely, False actually reached to the victims and had permission from two people. What Elara did wrong here is not even forgoing the process of informed consent. Like sure, you can argue "oh it's public anyway". It is, but people are still involved. If we're talking about "journalism" here, taking into account the people who are involved are more important than the scoop itself. Using these people for a scoop without even any attempts to contact them nor displaying due diligence to wait for contact is just plain sloppy journalism. Which, by the way, Elara had also done in the past. I don't think she had bad intentions. I can drop a glass of water on a customer without any malice and I'd still be in the wrong. It's my job to not make sloppy mistakes like that. It's her job to prevent these types of issues from happening cause it happened enough times to question the value of her work in covering news.

Something odd to me is people saying "Elara made it public." But, she didn't, did she? I remember seeing tweets about this made by the individuals involved telling people publicly what happened. It was already public. It doesn't seem reasonable to announce something to the public and then be upset when the public discusses it. Obviously you can choose to keep it private but it's unfair to switch the public/private status on and off depending on situation and individual and applying that after the fact.
