The VTV EVAL-1 is the one you want. It's essentially the original Eigentakt version in a different case which was designed to show off the new Class-D sound and uses the non-removeable OPA1612 opamps as originally intended by its hardware designer. It sounds very, very good and I have no desire to change opamps. It is an endgame power amp and I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for watching. The EVAL-1 is certainly a good option. Some of us like to experiment. Thus, the opamp input board.

I originally ordered the VTV Purify monoblock amps with the Sonic Integrity op amps. I found the sound to be harsh so Warren suggested that I switch op amps to the Sparko 3602s, which I did. That really cleaned up the sound. I found the case difficult and weird to remove and replace, especially to realign them. It could be made easier.

Thanks for watching. I am glad you found the Sparkos opamps more to your working. I didn't find working on the VTV anymore difficult than other amps. Warren seems open to feedback so feel free to share your experiences.

Definitely looking forward to your feedback on the vtv amp. I'm stuck in analysis paralysis trying to decide between March Audio purifi, VTV purifi, and orchard audio starkrimson amps. (For my home studio monitor use/orchestral music production). Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for taking the cover off the VTV amp. Do you know the gauge of the blue wires going to the back of the speaker terminals? From the video, they looked thin. Do you think this might be an opportunity for an additional upgrade?
@DIYHiFiLife
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Warren, thanks for watching my video. The Blue speaker connection wires seem to be standard copper hookup wires. Probably 20 or 22 gauge. With such short lengths, I find it hard to believe a thicker wire would make any difference?
@dimitriapproved

You are thinking of fuses, where 10mm of a thin wire makes a difference. This is speaker wire so 20cm of thin wire makes no difference because it not a fuse. Note to Sheldon: This is sarcasm :)

@@DIYHiFiLife Hello Chris. Following up, what are your thoughts on the opamp upgrade? I'm trying to decide if it's worth purchasing pre-assembled in a new unit.

Hi Chris, I’d like to add my voice to the others asking you to comment on the sound of both VTV amplifier and the upgrades you added with the Opamps. I am new to the notion of Opamps and slightly familiar with rolling tubes so would appreciate comments regarding even gross differences in sound that can be achieved. For instance, in your opinion was it even worth the trouble of upgrading from the stock amplifier to the one operating with the op amps?
@DIYHiFiLife

Thanks Bruce for watching. As a starting point about Opamp Rolling I would suggest reading this article: www.bursonaudio.com/products/ss-discrete-opamp-v4/#:~:text=The%20entire%20discrete%20op-amp%20is%20constructed%20with%20audio-grade,we%20put%20them%20in%20a%20component%20burn-in%20module. I will take your suggestion for a future followup video on this topic. Stay tuned.

@@DIYHiFiLife Thank you for your response Chris. Another question, do I understand correctly that opamps play a functional role similar to tubes in the pre-amplifier portion of the overall circuit in the VTV integrated amp? I’m thinking of my rogue sphinx which has two tubes but also relies on HYPEX class D amp boards
@DIYHiFiLife
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct. Many companies are doing similar things such as the Rogue amps you mention. Also, PS Audio puts tube input buffers in front of IcePower modules. Tube buffers have more immediate impact on the sound due to their high 2nd order harmonic distortion. Opamps are typically lower in distortion and thus less obvious in their differences. Personally, I like my electronics to be as low in distortion and noise as possible and choose my speakers and room postion to attain my sonic goals.
@brucebarbour9583
3 жыл бұрын
@@DIYHiFiLife Thank you! Now it all makes sense. You know a year ago I would have said that my preferences were exactly in line with yours regarding preferring low distortion. But this winter I built an amp camp amp designed by Nelson pass and when I listen to it and played it for my friends we all liked it and second order harmonic distortion is I believe The prominent feature of this solid State little gem. So now I’m curious as to why second order harmonic distortion is pleasing to so many people who like music. Could it be something inherent in acoustic music? Which is what I primarily listen to.
@qddk9545

@@brucebarbour9583 Yes you did understand that correctly, in your mind you could substitute a tube with an op-amp. Different vendor and topology, different sound, but Sparkos are in the high end.
