Thank you, this is by far the best description on separating the body from the pan that I have found here on KZitem, I really appreciate the time and effort you took in making it. I am currently deciding whether or not I can repair the frame head rust damage on my 71 Beetle without having to do this.

I haven’t looked for vids on how to do this, because I have been working on VWs since the 80s and know how. Lol. BUT your vid popped up and I watched it. You did a great job on showing someone how to do this. No BS and to the point. You have a new subscriber and I will give your other vids a watch.

The straps obviously worked fine, your video proved that. Since your lift arms lock I wouldn't worry about folding fenders in as a comment mentioned being concerned about that. I don't have a lift at home so I'll have to come up with another solution. I'm looking at a kit project so your video has the best detail I could find to show me what I'm getting into. Good job, very informative and helpful. Thanks for mentioning the 2 bolts that you missed at the end of the video. Very useful.

Hey Jay! Video was awesome! I only have a home garage, no vehicle lift. Need to work on my 67 Beetle. This video will help if i decide to or need to remove the pan. On the straps, Harbor Freight has tons of great products. I would not trust straps only, on a customers car. if a strap failed, great amout of damage and expense to repair. All the windows would be toast. Like the method, but only to break the body lose from the pan. (a few inches up) Then go with a more secure, solid lift method. Thanks again for the great video.

I too was concerned as a viewer mentioned below that the fenders might want to roll in towards the body and possibly bend --- but -- it worked out. ----- Thank You again for sharing with us. ---- I've got a '70 I want to remove the body -- No lift though!!!! -------- Rodney

Nice work again as always. I was a bit concerned that the straps would tweak the fenders. Would a 3/4" steel dowel/pipe/rod running through where the straps went through to avoid pressure on the fenders? Or remove the bumpers and tie the straps to the bumper supports? Dunno...just a couple of guesses. I'm hoping someday you'll have the opportunity to show how your shop would repair a broken clutch tube mount in the tunnel. The one that's near the e-brake. Got to get to mine someday but I'm chicken. Keep the vids coming please.

Thanks Campion, yes I was concerned about the fenders but I guess the body alone is not heavy enough to cause that. The pipe idea might work, just make it long enough to extend beyond the fenders, but I'd smooth the inner pipe edges so not to cut the strap. I'm about to do a video on swapping from an auto-stick to a manual transmission and that involves changing the shifter rod and shifter. I'll look at the clutch tube mount.

@@JayDubCustoms Hey thanks..I'll be sure to look over your shoulder to see how you cut into the tunnel and stitch it up again. I have a pretty good Idea. I've researched that an access hole should be round and not square due to any possible tunnel metal fatigue at the 90 degree corners. One of my largest concerns is other tubers who have shown this process make not much mention of being sure to drain the fuel line that runs parallel in the tunnel. Good idea when sticking a welding electrode in there I'd say. I think I would also include removal of the shift rod yoke access plate under the back seat and stick a shop vac hose in to suck out the welding smoke when tacking the bracket back together.

Nice shop. I picked up a 71 superbeetle convertable that has been sitting inside a shop for 20 years. It needs nearly everything, but the body is good. Floor pans have already been removed and it was prepped for painting. Still not sure if I want to separate those 2 halves or not. Maybe I should just sell it as is.

I'm restoring the same car now.. 71 Super vert. Almost done with it, just needs the top upholstered. Mine didn't require replacing the pan. Your call on selling vs restoring... they're neat cars to work on and a vert will be worth $$ when you're done.
