To anyone watching and wondering you 100% should zip tie the camshaft down in my opinion. The passenger side cam you can zip tie from the rear before pulling the cover off and the driver side cam you can work a zip tie in there from where the EGR valve sat on the cover. After removing the cover zip tie the passenger side down like you did the driver side and cut the rear zip tie you initially put on there to make sure it didn't move (rear zip tie makes installing cover difficult) also having the #1 Piston at TDC didn't matter one bit. And follow instructions in the video on bolt tightening and loosening sequence! Bolts are 8nm (roughly 6FTib torque) then 90° turn. Do NOT use the old bolts on the cam girdle get all brand new.

I've been searching for tips on how to do this job on my 2013 A4, and this video blows all the other videos away. The most detailed and informative video I've see so far. Feel much more confident in doing the job now after watching this. Question though... do you have to use new bolts on the cover, as most of Audi bolts have to be replaced after use.

Yes new bolts. Be careful not to have the tensioner push out . Make sure you watch my video on how to zip tie the cams down. *

Thanks for the video. It's been very helpful for part numbers & preparing to do my VW Jetta 2.0 TSI. In my case I am also replacing the timing chains, guides and tensioners. How do you ensure the camshaft lobes are in the exact position above the rockers ? Is there a measurement/procedure ? When I place the camshafts back in the journals they can slide left and right quite a bit. I am just trying to get them positioned correctly before torqueing the cam tray down. ( my exhaust camshaft has the single profile lobes, not like the TFSI exhaust camshaft ) Thanks again.

Can you provide details on the exact locations you applied the installation paste on the cams? Specifically I would like to know about the part that is connected to the vacuum pump. Did you apply installation paste on that area?

There is a tightening/torque sequence to follow when reinstalling the cam tray. Also, why didn't you just buy the gasket?

From the video it doesnt look like you ever had zipties holding the cams down, is it really necessary from your experience? I see a bunch of people saying the cams are held down anyway and there really is no risk of having it mess up if you dont mess with it directly.

@@E39M5SPEED I watched it, im actually working on one of these right now. Going to zip tie them down. Thank you for your quick response
@@E39M5SPEED i zip tied it down, exhaust cam is very difficult to get a zip tie in there while the cam girdle is still on so I just zip tied the rear where the fuel pump sits down onto a metal rod. Honestly it was a good idea to zip tie the intake cam even with a zip tie on it lifted quite a bit so I'd imagine without a zip tie it would lift a great deal. Only risk is having the chain tensioner extend out and then when tightening everything back down breaking it...unless the tensioner is not a ratcheting type still definitely use zip ties.

Nah. The orange one is low strength. Still usable and sold for gasket maker at a bunch of tuner shops. The green one is better tho. I guess the only technical hogh strength would be the one from factory, but i need project farmer to make a video on that and really answer that question.
