25mpg is not ideal but I should stress since this video and sorting out the tyre pressures it has gone back up to normal over the last few days - It does show how important regular general maintenance is ! Thanks for watching and please Like, Share and Subscribe for more content on my Golf R !

Since I took delivery of my VW Golf 1.5 SE Nav about Two weeks ago I have managed to get up to 57Mpg which is a lot better then my old previous Jag.

I can only dream of such economy !In truth yours is a huge saving particularly with fuel prices being so high for most of this year. I think per fill up I would save around £15-£20 which does add up over the year. Will be hard to justify a less economical car for me in the future...…..hopefully the MK8 Golf R. being a hybrid, can achieve such figures whilst still having the power :-)Thanks for the comment !

Hi Sam, many good comments form you to grab a hold of and respond on. I suppose the main one that stuck out for me was your tyre pressures. I do my best to keep a weekly tyre pressure check (despite the TPM system always working in the background), as you said before, those black circles are the only things keeping you and your car safely on the road, of course MPG and wear is also affected if the pressures are wrong like you said. 2-3 mile trips in the R, really? All I can say is there can't be any pavements where you live (🚶♂️) or you needed the boot space to load up or something 🤣

Thanks AJ ! I will keep a closer eye on the tyre pressures as it clearly had a big affect on things. I've been slacking on it ! Yeah I'm here there and everywhere these days so it ranges from very long journeys to quite short ones. For the short ones I'd rather cycle but the weather has not on my side at all recently ! Thanks for the comment !

I've seen my golf R at 25mpg by it's own computer once highest ever was 28mpg doing 50mph for 25mins....I drive it hard so it doesn't bother me but I was told it get 30mpg never unless I'm in 6th on a motorway doing 30mph lol...

It is nice to get the range and my economy is similar to yours. When driving it hard its low 20's really but for every day its mid 30's. Best is 44.4mpg lol - Slow 50 mile an hour stint on the motorway was the reason in top gear :-)Thanks for the comment !

You'd be surprised just how much tyre pressure affects fuel economy, especially when it's wet. I've found if they are down on pressure there is noticeably more drag in wet weather to the point it can hit fuel economy by 15% or more, in addition on the Golf R if there is reduced traction because of low tyre pressure then there are going to be more occasions when it's having to switch from FWD to AWD - which will impact fuel economy even further.

It seems to have gone down more than normal on this occasion. I'll have to keep an eye on it more over the winter months as it has had a big affect !Thanks for the comment !

Bruh don’t buy a golf R if your concerned about fuel economy, I have a golf R DSG which is more bad than your manual. I’d say you buy a 2l diesel if your that concerned about fuel

25 would be great in the states. I didn’t realize you have gallons in the UK. Though it was liters or pints or something like that. Anyways because of the emissions controls on US models I’m lucky to get 22.

The conversion I think is slightly different from UK gallons to US gallons I think. I have managed 44.4mpg (UK) on a long drive during my ownership as my best figure. 25 is generally my worst. Not sure how to work out the conversion between UK and US but for a 300hp 4WD hot hatch its really good ! The poor economy recently is definitely down to the low tyre pressures. Thanks for the comment from the US !

du er bare helt utrolig, har du ikke kjørt bil før? om du kjører opel 11,0 eller golf R så er forb det samme til motoren har blitt oppvarmet

I would advice you to warm up your car properly in the winter morning idle for at least 10 minutes.

Al Hassan that will eat gad also. I have a remote start and the R will remind me that long idles wastes gas.

Paul Trotter I agree that in isolation running you engine idle will waste fuel. But I was referring to the fact that the car is getting started in very cold weather and driven not warmed up. I feel you will waste more fuel and reduce the life of your engine long term, if you don’t properly warm up your engine before driving. I alwase warm up my cars before driving even in my Van.

@@mehdihassan7714 The recommend way to warm up your car is to start it and drive off, no idling. Regardless of sub zero temperatures etc. You'll only generate harm to the engine if you are red-lining and driving hard from the outset. Idling the car from cold does nothing other than warm up your interior and eat away at the MPG.

AJ I have personally not heard that advice before but will look into it. BTW love the spec you have gone for on your golf! Indium grey, DSG, pan roof, and Pretoria’s! Spot on!! 👍

@@mehdihassan7714 cheers for the subscribe and comments on my R, appreciated ;-) 👍 My previous comment about driving off from cold starting is from the VW owners manual and informs to "pull off as soon as there is good visibility through the windows. This helps the engine reach operating temperature faster". VW does say not to warm up the engine while stationary, although I feel that's also an Eco comment for obvious reasons. As long as the engine is not overload and avoid high revs when there's no optimum coolant & oil temperate readings .👍
