This doesn’t drain all of the coolant does it? You’ll need to remove the thermostat to get the coolant out of the engine block

To get out most of the coolant from Jetta mk3 or Vento 1994(in europe) there is also a way to do it without removing the thermostat. Detach the lower rubber hose(the one which finally through metal pipe mid section connects to heater core) going into water pump at the upper end where it meets the metal tube. Then bend it down considering next section.... Be aware of lots of coolant pouring also from the metal tube because you get all from heater core and expansion bottle. Got my rubber glove full of coolant twice before I learned the lesson. That hose is the one which makes no use of thermostat but instead connects directly to the water pump input cavity. Then most of the coolant in engine comes out through the water pump vanes. Also remember detach the lower radiator hose at thermostat end to get coolant out from radiator if thermostat is in cold position i.e closed to the radiator side. Of course it should be closed to radiator - you don't want detach any coolant system hose if coolant is near boiling temp. Official volume of coolant is 6.5 litres in Vento/Jetta mk3 1994 so you can track you position by measuring what you've already got.

I replaced the radiator in mine, the resivoir shoes no coolant in it but there may be some in the engine. The previous owner put green coolant in (not the correct VW coolant). What should I do

+YYC Garage hoping I don't have to remove the thermostat to flush it clean. Only thing I don't want to have to do but have no problem with the flush part.

YYC Garage did you just pull the radiator hose off with the screw driver? After taking off the clip I couldn't figure out how to pull off the hose

@@yycgarage6782 Do you use the oem antifreeze is what I meant, I heard the green antifreeze is bad for your hoses.
