It is the EGR cooler. The reason why the EGR cooler makes this sound is because of the Vacuum Operated Actuator Arm becoming loose causing exhaust to escape. You'll notice the smell of exhaust under your car and coming in to the cabin thru the vents. You might also notice your brake pedal reacting slightly later and if you're really unlucky the turbo might overboost because it can't let off excess boost pressure since the vacuum is escaping through the cooler. Best way to get completely rid off this in the BMP engine is to Blank off the EGR and remap the ECU to turn off the EGR. You can also replace the cooler, but 9/10 you'll deal with this problem again within 6-24months. I've been chasing this issue for 8 months and finally got it fixed! Thankfully this is one of the only main issues that the BMP engine has. Other ones being DMF/Clutch and the HPFP. Mine is at 410000km and still pulling like new!

Hi, i have same problem. How can i turn off EGR and remap the ECU to turn off the EGR? I'm sick of the smell of exhaust fumes seeping into the cabin through the vents.

At the bottom behind the engine. If you would take down the engine cover, you could easily see it

crypto hey. Well. I still have not fixed mine since I have not found good working but used part, since this is a common problem for BMP motors. If you are lucky you shoul look for one. This is a EGR COOLER for BMP 2l diesel motor. Used one should cost about 100-150Euros. If you want new one with varanty, then you can order it from VW Center. If you are a handyman, there is a link near other comment how to do a quick and cheap fix. But it did not work for me. So I plan to get a brand new one soon. And any mechanic that repairs engines and stuff will be able to change it for you, if you will need help with that.

Do you have any smell coming inside your car when you are stending. Burned diesel. How about power of the car its gone or no. I have something like that the cooler pipe was damaged.

Andrius K yes. I do feel the smel of burned diesel when car is standing. My problem is with this valve. It is worn off inside where it opens and closes. And for power loss I have not noticed any. There might be something, but have not felt any loss

Donatas Kaliginas i changed all cooler i think you have a hole somewhere. Whatever you need to take out him. Mine pipe was damaged a lot so i feel the heat coming out from the bottom also i had no power i had the same sound like yours and a borned diesel smell. I just thinking you have a small damage or little gole in a pipe or throw gums.

Donatas Kaliginas so you need to change all coller because the pipes is all of one part. The code 03g131512g must be for bmp engine. I bought that part for 20eur in my country

Sveiki, vyrai. Matau Lietuviai esat. Pas mane 1.9 BLS kodas motoro. Lygiai toks pats cypimas. Tik jis dar nėra pastovus, tik pradedant važiuot iš vietos, sucypia (jei grei duodi gazo - trumpiau, jei letai, pagal pedala jauti - ilgiau cypia) ir dingsta, iki kol sustoji, arba jei apsukos nukrenta iki laisvų apsukų (laisvos pavaros riedėjimas) remontuot apsimoka geriau kita aušintuva dėt?

Yes. Changed brand new EGR cooler from official VW dealer for ~300 euros (just for part). But unfortunately 2 years later it started doing the same thing. So probably it would be a good idea to buy one in aftermarket for maybe 50e and do it again after couple years since they are so fragile apparently

+martinst5826 yes. turbo is ok. it's the same part as you have shown in the lin below. I've seen that it is possible to fix it with liquid steel 500f strength and a small peace of metal, but I don't have such great technical skills to fix it. So I'm still driving with that stupid whistle sound. And to chamge whole radiator it cost around 150 euros for used one

Jei yra galimybe palist po masina ir nusiimt apsauga tai paziurek ar suodziais ten apauge. Jei svaru, tai toks garsas ir per turbina gali eit. Pas mane ejo per abu :D jei egr ausintuva tvarkyt, tai gali srote ieskot apie 80e, bet sveika sunkiau rast. Naujas apie 300e-400e su visom tarpinem. As dejau nauja is vw uzsakyta ir sita beda issisprende, tik vat per turbina dar vis pucia 😵

@@TheCtx16 asele tikrinau nekliba. Slangos tvarkoi. Egr buvau nusiemes vizualiai tvarkoi viskas. Suodziu niekur nesimato, tik dregna matosi po isiurbimo kolektorio ant bloko gal sitas ir neprieko. Ant laisvu tai jokio garso. Tik vaziuojant nuo 3 pavaros duodant apkruvos pradeda cypti nuo 2000 apsuku iki kokiu 2300 apauku
