If Mat teamed up with a manufacturer to design and build the perfect car then the dashboard would be padded, the boot would have no lip, the back seats would fold exactly flat, there would be no fake exhaust, you would be able to carry water bottles inside every door, the C pillars would have 'opera windows' in them, the centre console would be solid as a rock and there would be enough headroom for abraham Lincoln to ride in the back wearing his top hat. What did I miss? I do think Mat should design a car though, I would buy one rather than something Pininfarina churned out.

I’ve just bought a T ROC. I love it, I bought it because I have osteoporosis and need a perch and swing in seat. I’m 73 so am getting a big old for a hot hatch, but have had my moments in Alfasuds. The T ROC allows me to put stuff easily in the boot, gives me all round good vision higher up than an Audi A3 or a Golf. I find it sporty enough for my needs. Agree the finish of the dash is hard plastic but.... do I really care? Not a lot

Got the missus a second hand 2020 Q2 1.0 sport and it's great for her, we got a nice warranty deal for 5 years with the Audi dealership we bought it from. It had daft low mileage and was immaculate. The Audi is fab. I love it, nice comfortable drive and it's rock solid on the road the breaking system is the sharpest I've ever had on a vehicle and it's safe as houses. iThe steering is nice and responsive, very responsive in fact. It feels professional if that's the right word, or 'classy'. it's also more fuel economical than our old 1.3 ten year old Corsa!! Yes some of the trim is a bit plastic'y but the breaking, suspension and engine system is where the engineering is. We tried Seat (too rubbery on the road) Renault (too sluggish) and Toyota (too cheap feeling) and various other makes and none of them felt like the Audi to drive. Massive boot space and comfy interior. It's comfortable, has a fair bit of poke to the engine, feels more like a 1.3/1.4 engine and is very very comfortable. I keep the old banger and she has the Audi. Luckily she looks after it and it doesn't do huge amounts of miles. A good little car to pick up second hand for a good price, but a good warranty is worth getting if you can preferably from an authorised dealer rather than a 'car warehouse' type retailer. Yes, there's a lot of expensive upgrades and such like, but I'd never buy a car like this brand new! If i was looking for more luxury I'd have gone for a second hand Q3 sport version but we don't need a bigger and more expensive to run car. Bonus's with the Q2 include a cheaper insurance, road tax and London congestion charge exemption because of it's low emission engine! :) A belter of a little car, or not so little depending on your view...

I have driven both. The VW feels slower off the mark and less dynamic when it comes handling, the handling on the Q2 40 TFSI is superb and feels like a true hot hatch. The interior on the Q2 feels and looks fancier, the multimedia system is non touch screen though, but I personally like that, since I don't like using touch while driving, just feels unsafe. The VW has the more sophisticated exterior from the front IMHO, but the Q2 with a black grill matches it in this respect. I ended up getting the Q2 and I absolutely love the drive, what did surprise me though is it consumes up to 50% more fuel than the claimed 6.5L when driving in the suburbs, you're realistically looking at 9.4L/100 if not higher, they really should force car manufacturers to perform more realistic fuel consumption tests.

I've just got a 2017 Q2, 2 litre TDI. My last cars were both Skoda fabias, I only changed because I need a bigger car. I must say I absolutely love the Q2. It's fast, incredible to drive, really like the shape of it and it's my first automatic car and I didn't realise just how nice it is to change to automatic. Yes there's some things on the design like the key is an old cheap thing, it's not keyless start, but that's not the end of the world. It's not perfect size wise, but it's enough for what I need and it will be enough for as long as I need the extra bit of room. I'll be keeping the car as long as it will last

The Q2 entry level is very cheap looking the exterior and interior n I’m a massive Audi fan so was disappointed to find it’s only worth getting the sports upwards not technik The Troc is more solid n even at entry level looks great. Also worth to know that troc even at entry level drives exactly the same as the higher specs as it’s just the look that slightly changes with trim etc not the drive. I’d go for a 1.5

Personally as someone who lives where theres a lot of snow its actually a big help with a car that got a few extra cm off of the ground. And I really like to sit a bit higher while driving. I really like these crossovers. But if you got like two kids I wouldnt recommend it. 1 is a stretch, but for single and couples it's a great choice.
@ambassadorofpain1
6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Bird That totally depends on the car though. Your visibility comes down to the design of the pillars, rear window and even the length of the bonnet for example. The two cars in this video have terrible rear pillars. Unless you're getting to van levels of seat height I don't really think you gain much visibility relative to car size. I'd argue a Golf has better visibility than both of the cars in this video. TheHolydruid Fair enough, that seems like a legitimate reason. If we leave out the snow I'd say these aren't a great buy though, too many negatives against other models in relation to the price. Even for singles/couples, a Golf/Passat or A3/A4 (picking these due to the video) are more practical in most applications.

Some crossovers (SUV seems a bit rich) look good, but for the same (or less) money, you could potentially get a higher specification model of the hatchback it's based upon with better interior, better handling and better fuel consumption. Admittedly, you lose a bit of interior space and ground clearance (and possibly a better view), but even if you have 4WD (not that their hatchback equivalents don't, especially in Audi's case), who's going to take them off-road anyway? Perhaps people like the idea of sitting higher up, or being able to lord it over other drivers.

The answer is a Golf. The only differences between a Golf and T-Roc is that the T-Roc rides higher and has a fractionally larger boot - but the Golf has a far better interior, rides/drives better than both of these mini SUVs and will hold its value better. Why not an A3 then? Well because it's just a Golf with jewellery on, and while it's marginally better than the Golf....it doesn't warrant the significant price difference. If you want a mid size, grown up car with a hatch, buy a Golf. Or a Skoda Octavia if you want a bit more space.
