I bought my VZ V6 in 2015 and when I bought it it was running 18s which are still on the car and the suspension was so low I could only get a soft drink can under the car so I went the other way and got rid of the super low Peeder springs and old shocks front and rear and bought Kings stock height spring kit and added nolathane top hats to the front as well as bush kits to the front and back including camber adjustment kits to the rear and shock tower brace. The car has always had a very nice ride and the tray can now carry a fair amount of weight without the back end scrubbing out. Being able to adjust the camber means I get better wear out of the tires. Advice to anyone thinking of lowering your car don’t it’s a pain the arse to drive or work on but if you must and you own a Commodore Ute don’t cut the rear springs. Undo the rear shocks and the rear drive shafts as this will give you more play in the suspension and jack up each wheel and if you do have to use a spring compressor you’ll find it better to shorten the spring compressor bolts as this will give you more room to get the spring compressors on and get the springs out. Adjusting the height will also mean a visit for a wheel alignment front and rear which will help tire wear and handling and should set you back under $100. Hope this helps.

The factory springs have less compression on the utes, for level driving under max payload, i could put about 500kg of sand mainly as close to back of cab and drive was level front and back..VU S-pack 2001. Also good car detailer would get that dirt (money) out without removing the seats, good tip for home detail, hit the carpet with a tire wrench, it lifts the sand to the surface that home vacs cant lift. Also make your own attachments like long nozzles for the vacuum. I also used clean trade ins from mine sites, red dust is fun.

Dude I did the springs in my VZ Wagon, I had the same problem with the rear's. I reckon I spent an hour on both sides with coil crushers and a spanner to get the originals out.... Wish I'd known about the hand break shit beforehand 😂😂

Those plastic bits on the brake line have a flat spot and you have to turn them a bit so they slide out of the holder. And with the rear springs i disconnect the shock and sway bar link and get a long bit of box section and put it through the spring and lever down against the chassis rail.

I have a VZ ute exactly the same, colour and all. I put SSL set up on mine and surprisingly the front sat lower than the back for about a week until it settled down. It handled pretty good but I recently changed them to SL'S because I got a set of 20inch walkies, the tyres are the lowers profile I could put on them and I still had to grind the front plastics inside the guard to stop it from catching on full lock. It handles well but the ride is a bit rough because of the low profiles. But it looks good at that's what matters.

I lowered my first car a 1984 XF Falcon 4speed manual by cutting down the factory springs and doing a wheel alignment myself in the driveway 😂🤤🤤.. I cut them down so far that the diff use to rest on the road if I didn't reverse out of every driveway at a huge angle.. I also tore the front bar off on a gutter as the front wasn't much more than an inch off the ground... Needless to say it was a horrendous idea and rode like hell... So I ended up buying proper super low king's for it

XF is solid axel so doesn’t matter how low the car is the diff doesn’t move in relation the ground haha that’s only IRS cars

@@MindieJ 😅 well whatever was the lowest part of the rear underbody would smash into the road with a mighty bang. I don't remember this was over 20 years ago 😅 probably the tow bar.. I regularly had people at work come in and ask how I got it so low when they saw it parked out the front, it was embarrassing to tell them cut springs

@@MindieJ Never got stuck thankfully, but the front bar got destroyed a couple of times just from those raised concrete blocks alot of car parks have.. which was pretty embarrassing when it happened Infront of a carpark full of people laughing at me, as I picked up my front bar and threw it in the back of the car Each time🤣. it was a white car, so I ended up repairing and respraying the front bar gloss black with a white lip on the bottom and it looked really good. It was a cop magnet as I was on my Ps and it had a hornet scoop, illegal tint, tyres so fat they went past the guards etc.. I do miss that car but not as much as I miss my 383 stroker Phase 5 XD Ghia

Looks bloody good. Atleast the wheels are period correct & look more than reasonable. Bigger the diameter the worse the ride. I don't think thats warranted for black VE SS rims, also be wary of un even rear wear when putting such wheels on a VZ. Good vid mate.

Good work mate. Love the videos! As soon as I saw you couldn’t get the springs out I was like handbrake is on! Should definitely be getting a wheel alignment after changing the front struts…
