Love how in depth your reviews go. I have been debating on either these or the h6pro. I would love to see a deep dive video on these and epos h6pro. And what is better overall. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anybody do a comparison of these two headsets alone. They're always paired in with other headsets as well. Really just want to know what's the best between these.

Great review! You're one of the few KZitemrs I fully trust when it comes to audio as our taste in mix seems to align..I LOVE bass in my headphones, and most come out weak or just a flat EQ on that front. One question, how was the volume on PS5 for you? I find it can be a mixed bag depending on the headset..some are decently loud, some aren't. Currently using Penrose and Turtle Beach 700 Gen 2 Max and they're both good but TBs don't get as loud as I'd like at times, while Penrose are loud but can get very harsh like you were saying...Anyways, thanks in advance!
@GadgetryTech
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Asa! The headset is amazing on PS5. The controller has some decent juice to it, so it will definitely get loud. Louder than the 700 G2. It may not seem as "loud" as the Penrose, but that's because some of the overly bright harshness is no longer there. The overall dB is still up there though. If you ever need more, just add the HEL2 and you'll be blown away.

I have tried a few headphones trying to find the best positional audio for gaming, specifically CoD. I will be pulling the trigger on these soon primarily based on this review, can’t wait to get my hands on them. Awesome review as always, Joe. This headset looks so nice and premium. I love the style and no needless RGB. As you've probably seen me mention a million times in the comments, I currently use the PC38X, but I'm always curious what else is out there. Like, what is the next step up. When you mentioned Warzone my ears perked up because that is the game I play most online. Plus its great that they're so good for movie watching. I think I need to get a pair just to try them out for myself.

I meant to add to this, but I've been super busy lately. The PC38X is an open back and really shines on games like Warzone. The Model One sound is very different and will take some getting used to. If you get the Model One, play a few nights straight with it, without switching models. Then form some conclusions from there. I found once I adjusted for they way they deliver sound, the Model One is very natural sounding and feels like a special headset.

I know this is an older review, but hopefully someone comes in here and replies to me. I'm looking for a new pair of headphones. Primarily for gaming, but I'm also a programmer by day and listen to music on my computer while coding, so I'd like to have as good of a music experience as possible. I'm heavily considering getting this headset, because it's so good for gaming, but I'm also heavily considering the DT 700 Pro X, however there is almost ZERO information on the DT 700 for gaming and absolutely no information comapring the two headphone/headset. Based on the analitical charts from RTINGS on the DT 700, they have an okay soundstage, but fantastic imaging that rivals the PC38x, and from everything I hear the VZR is about the same as the PC38x if not better in both those categories, so that would tell me the DT700 would rival the VZR in imaging but slightly lack in soundstage for gaming. But the DT700 has better highs and mid accuracy, as I've heard that one of the downsides to the VZR. Has anyone used both these headphones, or can point me towards someone who has? Note: I need a closed back as my wife works and games in the same room, don't want to spend more than $350 and don't need a mic as I have a studio mic for my work that I use.

Buy them both and send the ones you don’t want back. I just got the VZR and Incan say that they are the best I’ve heard. The build quality is also incredible. Beyer’s are going to have a sharper EQ. If you are talking about passive noise isolation from the room noise via the ear cups themselves, it's honestly shocking how quiet these ear cups/pads are. This is the first headset where I need to take the headset off sometimes to hear what people are saying in the house even if I have nothing playing. Considering the H6PRO closed back uses a hybrid pad, the noise isolation is still excellent. Honestly for under $200 they are top notch. The open back variant doesn't really block anything out of course, by nature of design. The VZR Model One is just a bit beyond what essentially every gaming headset I've heard does with terms of noise isolation. It was the first thing I noticed when I put them on, and it was shocking.

Good review. To me, the corsairs blow this mic away. This one has too much of that higher pitch hollowness that so many headset brands have. The funny thing is that the mic in the cord is so much better than the included headset mic. It's too bad that the headset went massively just for sound and put the mic as maybe B grade. Why we can't get a superb sound with superb headset is beyond me.
@GadgetryTech

In case it helps, they have since upgraded the mic and even the cable to better handle impedance matching of the new mic setup. Penrose has a better measured frequency response, and the mid range is sublime. The VZRs have a strong bass emphasis which some people do not like. You can pull that bass down in software though, and still get something great. The VZR is much, much more comfortable than a Penrose, and it's built like a tank.

Thank you for your review, I got the penrose and before I bought it , I have watched many of the viewers on KZitem , you are the one who commented with truth and tell the fact . Most of them just say very good, nice , ba ba ba and they don’t mention the disconnection problem, I admit that penrose offer clear and excellent sound , I played pubg a lot, penrose give me clear directional foot steps , that is nice . However , don’t you think that it is fatal for a headset which disconnect very often if you play competitive online games? If you are gamer , you know what I am talking about . Turtle beach 700 gen 2 also got the same problem , wireless may not be the right direction. So I am searching for the wired one. I got Xbox series x, I realised that the mic of M1 works not good on Xbox? But what I most concern is the sound quality and no latency. May I ask when you are wearing m1, can you hear the environmental sound . Eg. A baby crying in the room next to you , thank you very much

The M1 blocks off more noise around you than any passive headset/headphone I've ever tried. The passive noise isolation is insanely good. I love when sounds stay super crisp and detailed even at high volumes and love wide and open spatial/directional sound stages specifically for gaming. Don't know if i got a dud pair or not. I've ended up ordering the Arctis Pro Nova Wireless today instead of them. Hopefully i'll be impressed.

I definitely remember you Gareth! I usually respond/keep up with all the messages well but I’m moving to the new house in a few weeks so these past few weeks have been crazy. I too ordered an Arctis Pro Nova as well! My 700 G2 still works fine even now, but I’ve shifted to focusing on each headset I’m reviewing so I haven’t done more than 50 hours in the 700 G2 Max. When I used it with the extension cord it was fine though. Hopefully you and I both enjoy the Nova for a wireless headset though haha. Good luck man!

I just got these yesterday, having found artificial positional audio not translating well to my ears. Put these bad boys on... DAMN. The positional awareness is ridiculously pin-point levels of accurate. They also feel lighter than they are. As the earpads "burn-in" and adapt to your surrounding ear area, the fit gets even better. Absolute blast listening to high fidelity music and going back into RP and FPS games to pull out the difference in detail and immersion.

The only reason that I am trying to upgrade is because I have one through five pairs of Astro a 40s. They always seem to break but they still have amazing audio. All I’m trying to get out of the vzr line is a louder, clear, more accurate version of the Astro a 40s like putting them on steroids and from what I heard from reviews that’s what these were capable of I have spent almost 20 hours troubleshooting but the mic will not pick up in the audio will not clear and I’m wondering if it’s a mix amp needed or a dac amp needed but everybody said that these were amazing out the box. I couldn’t even get that with loads of equalization added I couldn’t even get that connected to a mix amp somebody in the comet has the answers to my problem, so somebody please help because I want to experience what everybody has that own these and are happy with them.

Many of the above! Denon AVR-X4700H in two rooms, computer with headphone DAC and amps, consoles with OLEDs, etc. I have a lot of different gear I try things on. You do not want to use a receiver headphone amp for higher end headphones. The output impedance is too high and hurts the sound quality.

@@Ghostrecon12 my take is this…. Try it on the Denon first to see if you like it. If you do, that’s all that matters! For about $110, you can purchase a JDS Labs Atom+ amp, and connect the RCA preout on the back of your Denon to the JDS Labs aux in. You will want to make sure your Denon is in Stereo mode or Pure Direct if you do that.

Hi Jason. That's quite an awesome collection there! The Model One is a very different listening experience. You will need to play a few hours straight on it before jumping to any conclusions. With that being said, these are not nearly as forward sounding as the Penrose. They will immediately sound more laid back, but with more bass. With Penrose, the details are sharp and a bit bright in some audio mixes. In many cases I found I had to turn the volume down on the Penrose to help cope with ear fatigue. That's not the case with the Model One. On the M1, you can have a higher volume threshold, allowing everything to sound "full" and "rich", without hurting positional accuracy. On that note - the imaging of these is about as good as any closed back can get, even as you approach $1000 headphone pairs. It's just a different level. Plus, the comfort of these is a night and day improvement over the Penrose. I like the Penrose in certain applications don't get me wrong, I'd just rather play on the M1 all day. Hope that helps!

Do you have a good sidetone/mic monitoring solution with these? The Schiit Hel 2 doesn't do it with zero latency, right? I want something higher end than my Astro Mixamp TR for this purpose with these headphones. I'm trying out the Soundblaster GC7, but the mic volume on max is too low for both sidetone and others on Discord unless I turn on AGC in the windows sound properties. Then the mic is extremely noisy (EMI) compared to another pair of headphones with a V-Moda Boompro, an analog Modmic Uni/Modmic 5 with shielded cable, or well-shielded/grounded headsets like the Beyerdynamic MMX 300.

I have a question I have an VZR model one I also picked up a Gamedac 2. I connected the VZR to it(gamedac 2) and just been experiencing audio issues and not a lot of people have these two products together so I'm wondering if its something on my end or would you also experience issues as well. I hope something like this isn't too big of a ask.

@GadgetryTech How would these be best configured with the Sound blasterx G6 Amp/Dac? I'm thinking of purchasing the VZR Model One headset and this is the amp/dac I currently have. Would I run it in stereo mode with all the added features in the Creative sound blaster software disabled? Also, when configured in Windows sound, am I supposed to have the "enable audio enhancements" checked or unchecked? Love your channel and hoping you respond to this!

If you had to choose between the Arctis Nova Pro Wirless or this headset which would you choose?
@GadgetryTech
2 жыл бұрын
Hard part is they couldn't be more different aside from having two speakers and a mic! With the Nova Pro, the sound is brighter and more focused on treble detail. On the Model One, a lot of focus was placed on properly emphasizing bass response to help with immersion. The Nova Pro is loaded with features, possibly more than any wireless gaming headset ever made. Part of what you're paying for is going towards that. The Model One is pure analog. All the money you spend is going into the build quality, comfort (long term comfort is amazing), imaging, and sound stage. They will seem a lot more laid back sounding when you do an A/B test. If you use the Model One for a week+ without switching, you will get used to the sound and benefit from pin point accuracy when gaming. If you are gaming on PS5 with a controller, or on PC and have a decent enough headphone amp with mic support (the Schiit Hel 2 for example), the Model One is top notch. It really matters what's most important to you and if the draw backs of either model sway you towards one or the other. The Nova has been great and I really do enjoy them. I find sound tuning to be easier to deal with for long long sessions on the Model One (movies are unworldly good!), and I know it will last for years and years.

Yup! They both get very loud. The open back H6PRO is the quietest of the three. H6PRO closed back is the loudest of the three, purely from sensitivity rating.
