In Memoriam: Ruşen Güneş (1940-2020)
Ruşen Güneş, former principal viola of the English Chamber Orchestra, London Philharmonic and BBC Symphony Orchestras, was a legendary Turkish violist. Apart from his orchestral career, he was an avid chamber musician and a soloist. He premiered virtually all viola concertos and other works by Turkish composer. For many of us he was also a unique friend, older brother and a mentor.
I am the proud author of his biography, Ruşen Güne. Viyola Düştü Yola (Viola Hit the Road), published in 2015.
Ruşen left behind a loving wife, four children and probably thousands of admirers. We miss him sorely. Rest in Peace my dear friend.
Here is concert recording from November 25th, 2013 at the Süreyya Opera House in Istanbul.
There is also the Dvořák String Quintet No. 3 in E-flat Major Op. 97 from the same concert.
