Very important topic but from a viewpoint of fairly biased speakers who gave pretty diluted, safe feedback on their experiences. Notice when asked about racism in their own countries, they were more open and willing to criticize. This feeds into whataboutism and only helps to gloss over discrimination in Japan. Sure, there may not be the same violent racism that occurs overseas, one reason being there are far fewer visibly foreign people here anyhow, but that's not the same as saying it doesn't exist. Covid-19 with its strict border control preventing tourists, business people and international students from entering the country has left only residents. Due to media reporting of high cases in many countries, a lot of Japanese now appear to think foreigners in Japan are covid carrying bio terrorists and jump out of your way on streets, in stores and on trains even though you wear masks like everyone else. The country is far more 鎖国 now and is fast becoming an undesirable, unwelcoming place for business, study and travel.

Bingo. You hit the jackpot. And let’s not even get STARTED into the absolutely disgusting, BLATANT discrimination that is the housing industry. Just the mere mention that one isn’t a Japanese citizen is more than grounds enough for rejection. What a Disgusting country. 1st-words my ass. Japanese Mindsets still stuck back in the Middle Ages.
