Today, I'd like to discuss some of the risks associated with finasteride in the treatment of hair loss. Many male friends are using this medication due to hair loss, specifically the one-milligram low-dose version. The higher-dose, five-milligram version, is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia. Finasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, which works by inhibiting the formation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in many tissues of the body, particularly in the scalp and prostate. So, while today's topic is related to hair loss, it actually extends beyond that scope.
