This video is actually what I first saw when I tuned into NHK World (about 20-25 min after the quake). It took me about a minute to just figure out what was happening, but when I realized I was watching a live shot of buildings, cars... MOVING CARS, all being swept up... it's very powerful and scary.
Japan is the most prepared country against earthquake disaster in the world, and this still can happen. If this happened in other countries, the damage could have been greater.

@eamonman The scary thing is when the camera pulls back, if you are on the ground you have no idea how big the tsunami is and which direction it's coming from. You take a wrong turn and there is the tsunami.

It is very disturbing when you can see all this live... people trying to drive away.. people who ran to high grounds watching and crying.... its just sad.... whereas the previous huge earthquake from boxing day 2004 (i think it was 2004?) you didnt get to see it live and there were not as much footages..

However living on near the sea or iland pepoles will know Tunami scary .But in this times most of one are return to own house and tooking some kind of food ,wear,extra Id card etc. things so just second per hours to runnig from Tunami were getting too rate. If you seeing on front of your eyes you will never come back >

@2010ditta The green thing on the "right" is Japan, the areas highlighted in red and yellow are the areaas effected by the tsunami and earthquake
