ratings are fucked and always have been. doesnt account for weather changes during the day or other factors...
@tezcharold
2 жыл бұрын
@@bluespectralmonkey I guess ratings are just a very general indication of average skill when based on multiple seasons. You could never make a system that works, as how do you ever account for different tee times and weather, and when comparing one event to another, it also depends on who else is playing.
@hunter_greene
2 жыл бұрын
@@tezcharold golf deals with this by having a handicap AND a slope rating system. The most simple way to put it is a handicap is how a golfer typically scores relative to par, and the slope is the magnitude by which the course gets more difficult as a player's handicap gets farther from par. Where disc golf gets into weird situations with ratings is when courses are simple, but have a lot of OB. Mistakes are multiplied at those courses where somewhere like WR Jackson doesn't have much OB but is a very difficult course. Because the courses aren't rated, only the players, we have a system that can only compare one score to another and doesn't factor in anything else.

as someone who has lived in the area and played WR jackson several times, the teebox looks are mesmerizing to say the least. I tell my friends when they havent played it before that we're about to play Augusta National level difficulty and ambiance of disc golf. I warn them they'll prob shoot 10-20 over but its worth it for the experience. And then Paul does this and makes it look like a normal disc golf course. I swear its not. If you play the course as a beginner/intermediate player you'll realize that most of his easy looking hyzer skip shots are actually like 300ft straight into a big hyzer skip. If you skip early into the rough or tree at any time, its an almost guaranteed double bogey, that is if you don't have an S tier level forehand outshot. Still 100% worth it, and for a 5 dollar dropbox. Best course I've ever played glad Paul has left his signature on it
