"Geri," the 18-foot-tall steel giraffe that was part of the Waco Sculpture Zoo menagerie, is on his way back home after more than a year in repairs and sculpture rehab.
The giraffe, its legs snapped and crumpled by a wayward driver around Nov. 21, 2022, emerged Tuesday from the Baylor University sculpture arts shop where Waco artist and Baylor arts professor Robbie Barber had been repairing him for about a year.
Barber and 11 art students and staff steered the rolled steel framework through the machine shop to a loading dock, from which they muscled it onto a flatbed trailer, awaiting delivery to the park Wednesday morning.
