Are we being honest?
“Enjoy where you are” is something I posted about last week. While I still agree with the context of that post, after a conversation with a friend I had to take it a step further too… We may not enjoy all seasons. Some are beyond challenging. Therefore, it would be a disservice to say “Enjoy where you are” in relation to those situations. It could even come across as dismissive.
We can be honest with our feelings. Denying them doesn’t help in the long run. Being honest doesn’t mean we aren’t grateful. Honestly it goes back to this… we must not put ourselves or others “in a box” of how one should be when we are all uniquely different. When I shared last week, it was in a different context but I believe this following example displays the point I’m trying to make
When my oldest was diagnosed with 21 allergies & other medical issues continued to invade our daily lives, it was hard not to think ahead in anticipation & hope, to when our prayers would be answered & he would be healed. Of course, I didn’t enjoy that season of watching my son in doctors’ office much of the time, but we all learned a lot during that time for which I’m grateful.
Looking back, my prayers were often cries for help. But now, those very tears God has turned into strength.
The point is… God never asks us to pretend. He wants us to bring our honest, our raw, our very being & to be with Him. He wants to carry us on our hardest days & rejoice with us on the good.
So what do we do on those days & in those seasons to turn our wishing time away to standing on His promises along the way?
Wade the waters with Him.
Don’t pretend not to be there.
Instead, turn to the One who is with you during it. Honestly.
Talk to someone you trust.
Ask for help. Ask for prayers.
The seasons that carry weighty storms are nothing on what God can calm. Not liking the season doesn’t mean you are doing something wrong. It means that this world can be so hard & you are being real.
You are not alone in the waters & you’re not alone when they subside or calm either.
God can turn our “wishing away” to the anticipation of a better day, to an anchored HOPE & His unwavering promises. ♡
“He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.” (Psalms 107:29-31)
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” (Mark 4:39)
