Maybe add a disclaimer about wearing headphones. They can be a distraction when walking. You can’t hear cars, other dogs, people. Unless your are very very aware of your surroundings I wouldn’t suggest listening to anything. Take in the surroundings. Be more aware. Safety first. Or if you must wear headphones because you’re bored, volume low low low.

Adrienne Leyvas i agree. I’m a walker myself, and I’ll put on audible, but I’m always very very aware of surrounding. Perfect example yesterday someone had both dogs loose and fence was open, long story short dogs ran up to us, I was aware, put the dog behind me so he wouldn’t be hurt, and just yelled and scared the other dog, so he wouldn’t attack us or bite the dog I was walking. Owner was struggling to get both her dogs because she lost one of her sandals and there was snow on the ground lol I just walked away once she got her dog and commenced with my walk.

Good point, I just figured people would use their best judgement when it comes to volume levels and it being a distraction. I usually have everything at the lowest volume I can get it so I can still hear the podcast or music no problem but also be aware of my surroundings. On another note, even if I'm not actively listening to something I like having headphones in just as another visual cue to not approach me when I'm with a dog.

might've missed some, but.. 1. bring poop bags 2. bring tissues 3. have a fanny pack or purse to hold everything together 4. treats, ask owner about allergies/diets 5. bring hand sanitizer 6. get wireless headphones, bluetooth devices 7. find good podcasts, entertainment, informational; makes walks go faster 8. bring your own leashes, non retractable leashes are easier for multiple dogs

I'm a dog Walker and I agree 100% with all this advice. And I also listened to music at first and then my friend got me into podcasts. It changed me lol. I actually really enjoy going for walks now, instead of just "meh" about them. Wag is honestly an amazing app

Ive been working for a dog walking company for years. Started before Wag! existed (or I never knew about it until a few months ago) and I had been considering making a dog walking tutorial (not the joke series I made a couples years ago). But you have covered quite a lot and I agree with it! So good job here and I hope you have wonderful experiences doing this work.

This helped alot! i just did my first one today and the people were home so the husband was outside with their dog... the picture on the app wasnt the pic of the dog i walked... it was a husky... he was barking at me but then when i got the leash he was fine... she rated me 4 stars like idk why???? and they did not tip me.. which is fine 14.00 i can deal with it.... but i felt a weird vibe that the wife did not like me or some thing??

Just became a walker... Quick question, does a dog park for the time requested count as a walk?
@ccherilynn
5 жыл бұрын
This one is kind of tricky because Wag will tell you no, due to the fact that if a dog is wandering off leash in the dog park something could potentially happen to them since they're not fully in your control. It's a big liability, but on the other hand, I have had multiple clients that specifically say in the notes that you can use the dog park (usually one in the apartment complex, not one that's far away) and that counts for the walk time. Really it's up to personal preference if you want to take that risk, but only do it if the owner specifically says to, taking them to a dog park just because you feel like it is a big no-no. I've had some dogs that tug way too hard and 10 minutes of fetch in the dog run helps for them to get some energy out before the remainder of the walk. I also only will utilize a dog park option if it's empty, you never know how other dogs will interact with each other. Hope this helps! Happy walking!!

Hi! I’m a 13 year old girl and me and my friend want to start a small little neighborhood dog walking business because we live in apartments where almost everyone has dogs here. Do you have any tips to make sure we are safe and how to keep the dogs safe? Thanks!

A good idea i always thought my neighbours did'nt need any help by walking a dog and i was absolutely wrong i now walk a neighbours dog for some extra pocket money i would give you're neighbours you email or phone number and you get the best experience when you just do it i do have some things for the first time you walk with a dog 1. If you come in don't look the dog in the eyes he will see you as a rival if you do this bring a treat stand sideways looking at the dog giving the treat don't get low with the dog he has to know you're above him and not equel to him (2. You have to be the first walking out of the door or walking in the door so the dogs know you walk them and not them you (3 always look infront of you sometimes you're dog can eat something and when you want to see it he already swallowed it it's better to see what he has in his mouth before he has it in his mouth so scan around te place you're walking (4 don't let the dog walk infront of you if he walks next to you it's more easy to turn around and decide where you're going. I hope these tips help you i know it's a while ago and you probably already started walking but yeah 😂😂

I often have times getting the lockbox open. Advice for that?
@ccherilynn
6 жыл бұрын
I do actually, I find that if the lockbox won't open, you either have to push on the bottom or on both sides to get it to pop. This method has always worked for me, before when I had a hard time I used to try to pry my nails under the actual opening to pry it open, but really just pushing on the bottom was what did the trick.

Of course it depends on how frequent you are walking, but the base pay for a 20 minute walk is $8.40 (used to be $9, not sure why it's lower now), 30 minute walk is $12, and an hour is $18. The walk pay will also increase by $3 each dog that is added to the walk (additional dogs in the household, not other dogs from other homes). You also may or may not get tips as well, and I'm not sure how high the tips go, but the highest tip I've gotten I believe was $6 for an hour long walk. I hope this helps!

I'm a dog walker, and I can usually make $50-70 easy within 5-6 walks. I usually average $200 a week and only go on 2-3 walks every other day
@pawsitivepanda
6 жыл бұрын
My average is around $200-$225 a week give or take. I have recurring so my schedule is pretty much set unless i take on demands which depend on where i am at the time and where the dog walk is. One can easily make $300-$400 a week if you take on 4-5 walks per day everyday. I myself only have 4 recurring walks and the rest of my week is filled with on demands if i am not busy that day.
@pawsitivepanda

Here in San Francisco the pay is $15+1 for a half hour and $21+1 for an hour. The +$1 is only added if you have a bandana on the dog and are wearing your wag paraphernalia.
