I've been getting out on the Stour, trying to get a response from the roach on tares. After a slow start to the season the roach are responding well to hemp and tares, and in this session I'm able to quickly switch to tares on the hook after starting with maggots. I finish the session with a couple of dozen roach in a couple of hours, and unlike other recent other sessions catch no other fish ay all though I suspect that if I'd used maggots throughout the session I'd have caught dace, small chub, bleak and possibly perch. In this middle Stour swim the main current is more than a third of the way across the river with a slack closer in. The wind is blustery and upstream ahed of a weather sytem coming in, and sometimes the wind hinders the float. My second roach book, Big Roach 2, is available from calmproductions.com
