This is a fresh and exciting interpretation of a very popular (to a fault) piece. Gets tears out of me every time. Nelsons is an amazing, inspirational conductor. I would be honored for the privilege to play under him just once someday.

Watching Andris Nelsons making eye contact with his musicians, reminds me of the double bass player that played thirty years with Karajan, but said he never made eye contact with the conductor. In the modern age musicians demand more humane exchange from the podium. I would love to play for him.

Bill Sullivan He’s got a jack Nicholson here’s Johnny vibe, but somehow in a great way
Thank you for posting....I couldn't be happier that we have Maestro Nelsons in Boston.

Yes, Nelsons is animated, but to quote Anthony Tommasini NYT Sep 29: "just 35 Mr Nelsons has become one of the most respected and sought after conductors in the field".

Da notare la faccia di Paul Lewis quando dopo il primo movimento del Piano concerto di Beethoven scoppiano gli applausi ovviamente poco appropriati (36:57) ... comunque pianista di grandissimo talento... uno dei migliori della sua generazione!

Nelsons is a big clown. Don't the musicians really know it...?

I think you should read comments by the musicians and discover their admiration for his musicianship, leadership qualities, and joy in making music. We in Boston are pleased we have acquired one of the brightest lights in the musical firmament as our new director of the Boston Symphony. Try listening to his work rather than making stupid comments about something you know little about.

Gerald Lloyd That's what the BSO players said during the first few years of Seiji Ozawa--another highly "marketable" conductor---and how did that turn out? Let's hope for the BSO that Adnris Nelsons, still only 35, can grow in office as Ozawa never did.

+2charliep I can assure that had I lived in Birmingham, I would have felt the same way. The BSO is not the CBSO.

+waltervonstolzing13 I have some large reservations about Nelsons but I think it adds little to the discourse to trivialize him and his accomplishments. The Boston Symphony has many superb musicians in its ranks, and so far they like him. Time will tell if their assessment will last or if it is valid.
