Mind you it was directly on and over a salt water river. I dismantled much of the electrical before trying to repair after the storm. All the connections were twisted with wire nuts. All the connections were still in perfect working condition almost 50 years later on a salt water river open shop with no ac or heat and bait tanks spraying salt water 24/7 365. 50 years of expansion and contraction and a salty high humidity environment. I’m not sure if wagos would hold up like that or not but I know twisted and wire nuts did. So I’ll stick with twisted with a nut.

Adding to any UK comments - our regs here are a lot more stringent and allowing a company to make a terminal that is foolproof and takes the edge out of termination issues and the liability of cause coming down to that connection issue, the time it saves and the reliability of getting a nice clean connection every time with a visibility aspect of almost a hundred percent of your work, they are exceptional.

Wago and MK teamed up to make a 3 terminal, 3 leg (L+N+E/G) double socket.. I believe they teamed up... Either way, it exists! , having clamp terminals I find much more appealing than a screw. Would certainly be very good use case in fused terminals for appliances requiring multi strand flex - though, bootlace ferrules are the problem solver for that ATM for cheapness so... However you look at it, a clamp terminals, that can encompass the entire surface area of the Conductor, is the best. I understand hooks and loops, they work, they provide good termination, with screws in every scenario but the technicality of getting It right - there is more to go wrong or can go wrong. Less steps to a successful connection is a more reliable connection. As long as the interconnects are more less prone to error of implementation. Same can be said setting up a home network. If your really into termination and the hardware side of things, there's a brochure of all the industrial (and some domestic) bits n bobs weidmuller (related, but not on topic) does... That was a mind bending 134 page document... From what I know, the Germans, as per usual, are never quite happy that perfection is actually perfection Garbled comments over. Happy wiring

The ONLY way a wire nut can be safe and strong is when using solid conductor, heavily pretwisted as shown in this video, which is a LOT of work. And that my friend is a discouraged Method of electrical connection here in North America! There are plenty of switches and outlets on the market, more so in the past that you just shove the wire in and that's all and those eventually fail or work their way loose. So let's not even compare that. I mean my house was constructed in 1940 and when I went through and changed all of the wall outlets guess what was still holding nice and tight?? that's right it was wire nuts! just because some people don't install them correctly doesn't mean we should encourage them by coming up with a more stupid proof connector! Is twisting required if the wire nut is listed for no twisting ?
@toolsandtactics

@farmerdave7965 No twisting on solid is fairly important. Though for the next guy behind you, because if he opens up the wire nut they don't just kind of spring out everywhere That is, of course, when working hot and you shouldn't be doing it anyway

It's the same thing as pushing in a quick connect on the back of a device. It's still prone for failure.I've changed tons of receptacles with that.Same kind of principle because they've got hot and loose and melted the wire. I'm sticking to try it in true western union spice with a wire nut. Is dried and true

Does this guy actually twist the wires together then cut them flush before putting on the wire nut? How many junctions is he doing a day, 10?

I've always used wago connectors for low voltage and why are nuts for everything else. Wago are like the "stab in the back" receptacles they will fail over time.

Push-in Wagos are great for solid wire, but not that great for stranded, especially with wire smaller than a #12. I can usually get #12 and #10 to work in a Wago, as long as I twist the strands together first.

It’s not even that I don’t like wago, it’s just that I’ve used the classic twist, wire nut, with a wrap of tape for my whole life. I didn’t even know there was other splicing methods used to be honest. It works, and as long as you twist your wires properly there should be no problems with loose connections, or dropping a neutral. Also wagos are $10 for 12 of them. I can get a 500 pack of Ideal Twister wire nuts for $25. That’s more splices than I’d need to make in an entire job. You might use a 12 pack of wagos in 2-4 boxes depending on what you’re doing. That adds up.

The Wago's are a lot neeter looking but still like sticking the wire in the back of a recipitical, or placeing it under the screws? Surface contact. Current runs over the outside of the conductor, not threw it.

Not seen a wire nut fitted in the Uk in the last 40 years. That Waco would hold 4 cables they do 6 an 8 cable versions. Try doing that with a wire but. Plus you can add and remove cables in a multi block, very neat

Based on the principle so they all get grabbed evenly. Usually if I have what they call a shanghai, it only grabs a longer point And continues to only pull on that one wire, so cutting an angle would only grab the taller portion question mark?

well its rater obviouse wirenuts just protect the joint. wagos are the joint. wirenuts can handle way more amps. wagos can handle way more cables withiut creating a mess. which means wagos are better when the house is built propperly but wirenuts are better when u just want to permanently slap 2-3 wires togheter.
